Man charged
in firearms case
A 23-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday by police in the 400 block of Stronach Avenue and charged with two felony firearms violations and other offenses.
William Javon "Von" Maye was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He also was charged with resisting arrest, and he was picked up on an outstanding traffic charge.
Maye was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $120,500 secured bond.
At the same time, police also arrested the resident, Takyma Akya Teasley, 19, and charged her with harboring a fugitive and two misdemeanor counts each of assault on a law-enforcement officer and resisting arrest. She was jailed in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers assisted in the case.
Four hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured Wednesday in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Two pedestrians were struck by a car at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot in the 900 block of South Slocumb Street, police said. Edwanna Nicole Cox, 23, of Olivia Lane, and her 2-year-old son, Judah E. Cox, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The driver, Cornelius Lamont Barnes, 23, of Kinston, told police that he did not see them as he backed up. Barnes was charged with a safe-movement violation and driving while his license was revoked. The car was not damaged.
*Two people were injured and both cars were demolished in a collision at 4:18 p.m. Wednesday at North William Street and Hooks River Road, police said. One driver, Teresa Enoch White, 40, and her passenger, Thomas Earl Parker, 40, both of Rocky Mount, were released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Jerry Dale Andrews, 45, of N.C. 222 West, Kenly, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The cars were valued at $13,000.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A red Murray riding lawn mower, a Sears push mower, a hedge trimmer and a weed trimmer were stolen between Monday and Wednesday from a home in the 400 block of Robin Lake Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Ervin E. Ranson, estimated the value of his stolen property at $1,030 and damage at $40.
*A thief cut a hole in a fence between Monday and Wednesday and stole 200 feet of aluminum wire from Progress Energy at 1701 W. Grantham St., deputies said. The wire was valued at $900.
*A total of 150 phone cards were stolen Wednesday from the It's Your Time store at 114 E. Walnut St., Goldsboro police said. The cards were valued at $750. A clerk said two men and a woman had tried to sell her jerseys, DVDs, compact discs and DVD players. When the they left, she said, the cards were missing.
Smoky hot dogs
A pot of hot dogs was cooked too long Wednesday night and smoked up a kitchen at 931-A Fairview Circle, Goldsboro fire officials said.
The small fire resulted in only minor smoke damage at the Shaquita McArthur apartment, officials said. Goldsboro firefighters responded with three engines, a ladder and a command car and needed about 20 minutes to ventilate the home.
Rug burned
Fire destroyed a rug and damaged a door at a home at 2101 Courtyard Circle, a Goldsboro police report said.
The resident, Major Earl Edwards, estimated the value of the rug at $10 and damage to the door at $120. Police are investigating the fire.
Assault charge
A 40-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with assault on a child and false imprisonment.
Raul Pineda Ponce of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive, was arrested after Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour investigated a complaint of an assault on Monday. Ponce's bond was set at $1,000 on the misdemeanor charges.
Man wanted
A 41-year-old Goldsboro man is wanted by Goldsboro police on charges in connection with a break-in in the 700 block of East Mulberry Street.
Paul Anthony Kornegay was described as black, 5-feet-7 and 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to frequent the soup kitchen on Oak Street, the House of Fordham on North William Street and the 400 block of North George Street, police said.
Anyone with information on Kornegay's location was asked to call Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward, if their information leads to an arrest.
Missing
A 21-year-old man was reported missing Wednesday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Louis McKinnon Jr. of 117 Southridge Court, Dudley, was described as black, 5-feet-9 and 170 pounds with close-cut black hair, a goatee and brown eyes.
No clothing description was available. Anyone with information on McKinnon's location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
