Duplin hospital faces 50
KENANSVILLE -- Dig out those scrapbooks and boxes of memorabilia.
Duplin General Hospital is getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The hospital board is looking for pictures, mementos, perhaps some of those old hospital bills from the '50s. Hospital officials will scan them for a display that is planned for the big day and return them to their owners. If anything turns up that you think the hospital might like to use, call 910-296-2606.
Duplin General Hospital will celebrate its 50th anniversary on March 19 in the Kenan Memorial Auditorium.
"We're inviting lots of people," said hospital Vice President Rebecca Nesbitt. "It looks like it's shaping up to be a fun day."
The celebration will be a day-long affair, beginning at 10 a.m. with a ceremony recognizing those who have contributed to the development and success of the hospital. Activities will also include a health fair, a history trail with the memorabilia on display, music and entertainment.
EDC to hire secretary
KENANSVILLE -- Duplin's Economic Development Commission director, Woody Brinson, is going to have a secretary again.
The county advertised for a secretary to answer the telephone in the EDC office, and it received 64 applications. The county's Personnel Committee has narrowed the field to five and hopes to start interviewing next week. Brinson said Wednesday he wishes he had time to interview at least 20 of them. They are some good applicants, he said.
Brinson lost his secretary to the county's Tourism Department earlier this year, and his assistant, Scotty Summerlin, resigned six weeks ago.
"It's been strange checking four computers and four voice mails for messages," he said.
