Wayne County Schools hires new public information officer

The Wayne County public schools have hired Kristy Fair as the new public information officer.
She replaces Stan Alleyne, who took a job with the Bumcombe County School System in Asheville.
Ms. Fair most recently worked as a reporter with television station WNCT in Greenville, where she covered many education stories.
In her new job, her duties will range from public relations and marketing to special events planning and preparing press releases, articles and information for the school system's Web site.
She will be the primary media contact to promote achievements in the schools as well as providing information in such cases as inclement weather and assisting with crisis response and management.
She will also be called upon to help develop strategies in teacher recruitment as well as promote the school system to newcomers to the community. And she will lead staff development in media relations and help prepare programming for the school system's educational TV services.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to contribute to the communication and information exchange among students, staff and the community that is key to a successful school system," Ms. Fair said.
She is pursuing a master's degree in English and technical and professional communication at East Carolina University. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in journalism and mass communication.
Dr. Steve Taylor, superintendent of schools, said, "Ms. Fair's experience and background will serve us very well in her position as public information officer for Wayne County public schools.
"Her proven track record of success will make for a smooth transition into her new role as she works with all 31 schools to effectively communicate news and activities."
