Brock new Duplin County emergency services director

KENANSVILLE -- Curtis Brock started work Monday as Duplin County's new emergency services director.
He had been the operations officer for Wayne County's Emergency Medical Services since it began a couple of years ago.
Brock has worked in emergency medical services seven years. He said he loved working at Wayne EMS. "You couldn't find finer people to work for. I thought I would retire there, but when the opportunity came to come back home and work, it felt like the right thing to do."
Not one to jump into something, he said he gave it a lot of thought. He talked to his wife, his parents, his preacher. He prayed about it. "Everything was saying, 'Yes!' -- It just felt right."
"There's a lot of work to be done," he said, referring to the county's effort to start providing round-the-clock countywide EMS with paid workers.
The county has one ambulance rolling 24 hours a day, and he hopes in two months to have two more on duty. "That will leave us with three trucks that cover from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday," he said. "They will be phased in to cover 24 hours as soon as possible."
Brock has lived in Duplin County all his life. He grew up in the Rones Chapel area and farmed in Albertson for 12 years before selling the farm recently and returning to Rones Chapel. He and his wife, Susan, have four children.
