Burr visit
U.S. Rep. Richard Burr will bring his campaign for the U.S. Senate to Goldsboro this week.
Burr will be at WAGES, 301 E. Royall Ave., at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burr, a Republican, is challenging Democrat Erskine Bowles for the Senate seat to be vacated by Sen. John Edwards.
Burr is returning to the campaign trail after attending the House Select Committee on Intelligence's hearing on the 9-11 Commission report.
Addison as manager
Matthew Addison of Goldsboro is serving as company manager and stage manager for "A Night at the Conservatory," the first program of the North Carolina Theatre's new Conservatory for the Performing Arts.
The Conservatory, based in Raleigh, houses a full-time professional staff and will offer students a foundation in the performance arts. It will showcase the on- and off-stage talents of some of the theater's young people.
"A Night at the Conservatory," a benefit concert, will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the North Carolina Theatre Studios at 3043 Barrow Drive in north Raleigh. In addition to his off-stage work, Addison will be one of the performers.
Guest appearances will be made by Ray Walker, artistic director and Broadway actor, and Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker.
A few seats remain available for people who contribute $100 or more to the Conservatory. More information can be obtained by calling 1-919-831-6941.
Youth choir forming
Paul Cunningham, music director at First Presbyterian Church, is forming a community choir for boys and girls.
The Goldsboro Boy and Girl Choir will rehearse weekly at First Presbyterian on Ash Street. It is for children in third grade through voice change.
Plans are for the singers to give a three-concert season, beginning with a December service of lessons and carols, patterned after the annual celebration at Kings College in Cambridge, England.
Tuition is $200 per child. Fifty dollars is subtracted if the parent does volunteer work for the choir. Families who have more than one child attending will also receive a reduced rate.
Scholarships will be available.
Individual auditions will be held from Aug. 16 through Sept. 9. Call Cunningham at 734-5392 to schedule an appointment.
