Morrison
This week's Crime of the Week is a shooting incident that occurred on June 14, 1997.
The shooting happened in the early morning hours as the Elk's Club in the 300 block of South James Street was closing. As patrons exited the club, a vehicle occupied by three black men drove through the intersection of James and Pine and the occupants began firing handguns into the crowd. The intended victims of the shooting were not hit, but two innocent young women were shot and seriously injured. Two men were arrested shortly after the incident, but a third remains at large.
Donyell La-Velton Morrison is still wanted in connection with the shooting. He is a 29-year-old black male, 5-feet-11, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Morrison's last known address was on Rollingwood Drive in Dudley.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Morrison, or any other crime in Wayne County, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. All callers remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Chase investigation
Wayne County law-enforcement officials are still investigating a car chase on Saturday afternoon that ended near St. John Church Road.
The suspect is Bradford Everette Turgeon Jr., 26, of the 1300 block of Piney Grove Church Road, say sheriff's officers. He was driving a gold Nissan Sport.
The chase started on N.C. 111 and went through Seven Springs, across the Neuse River and down Piney Grove Church Road toward U.S. 70. The driver headed down a dirt path, abandoned his car and fled into a cornfield. Damages were estimated at $200 to the corn field.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officials are investigating these reports:
*A trailer, go-cart frame, racing engines, sets of tires, air compressor, generator, drill and sprocket gears were reported stolen Monday from the inside of a trailer at the 500 block of Buck Swamp Road. The owner, Roby Craig Bass, estimated the property's value at $9,690.
*A steam cleaner was reported stolen Monday after a lock was cut off the side door of a business at the 1500 block of Arrington Bridge Road in Dudley. The owner, Mark Easton, estimated the property's value at $2,200.
*A chainsaw, air wrench, air ratchet, weedeater, hedge trimmer, skill saw, wrench set, wheel grinder, bench grinder, air sander, air drill, claw hammers, garden rake, drill, wheel barrow, smoker, toolboxes and a rocket set were reported stolen Monday after two garages were broken into at the 1900 block of N.C. Highway 55 E. in Mount Olive. The owner, Robert Lee Morrison, estimated the property's value at $3,329 and the damage to the front door of the garage at $50.
*A Nintendo game cube, game cube hardware, games, an X box game system, X box hardware, games and DVDs were reported stolen Monday from the 800 block of Oakland Church Road in Princeton. The owner, Michael E. Everett III estimated the property's value at $3,173.88
*William Nelson Justice of the streets of Goldsboro reported Monday that someone had taken $11,240 from his bank account at the Wachovia Bank at 301 E. Ash St.
Wrecks
*Two people were injured Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision on U.S. 70 at N.C. 111 toward Woodpeck Road.
A vehicle driven by Chuck Berry Sutton of Club Knolls Road in Dudley was approaching the intersection of U.S. 70 and N.C. 111 when he started to slow down for traffic stopped at the light.
He was unable to stop in time and collided with another vehicle driven by Paul F. Heatherman of Main Street in Hallstead, PA. A vehicle driven by Delena Hughes Baker of Washington Street in LaGrange was stopped a the light and Heatherman's vehicle collided with her vehicle.
The total estimated damages were $6,250. Sutton was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, he was discharged from the Emergency Department.
He was charged with a safe movement violation.
