Club owner: Wrong address

The owner of a nightclub in Goldsboro said her establishment was not the place where a shooting occurred on July 11.

A police report on the shooting death of Corey Levon Grantham said that "several shots were fired on the west side of the club."

Janet Fenty, owner of the Paradise Club at 800 Corporate Drive, said the shooting was not on her property, but across the street.

Snakes Alive

On Saturday, the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park will present "Snakes Alive," a program about the snakes in the park and what to do if you see one.

There will be live snakes at program, but touching is not required. Meet at the amphitheater at 7 p.m. for the program.

Call the park office at 778-6234, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for more information and to reserve a space.

Eighth Habitat house

Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro and Wayne County has dedicated its eighth house.

The house at 101 Littleton Place off South John Street will go to Gwen Sheard and her family.

Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro and Wayne County, formed in November 2001, is currently building two other houses.

"We are excited about the progress that we have made in this short period of time," said Beth Parrish, the executive director. "We are also appreciative of the support of the citizens and businesses of Wayne County and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base who have contributed so much to that success."

NAACP banquet

The LaGrange Branch of the NAACP will hold its 2004 Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at E.B. Frink Middle School, 102 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, LaGrange.

The Rev. Julian Pridgen, pastor of Saint Augustus AME Zion Church in Kinston, will speak.

Wrong date

U.S. Rep. Walter Jones will speak Monday at 7 p.m. at Wayne Community College at the monthly meeting of the Alliance of Retired Military. Jones will speak on the difficulty for retired military to access the medical benefits. The date was listed incorrectly in the first article.
