Rashied Green

Airman Rashied Green completed basic Air Force Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on July 16.

The airman is a 2004 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He is the son of Renee and Laymond Bratcher and the grandson of Carolyn Davis of Wilmington, Chandra Davis of Goldsboro and Cassie Williams of Haddock, Ga.

Nichole Gibson

Army Pvt. Nichole T. Gibson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, along with other military-related subjects, and participated in physical fitness training and field exercises.

A 2002 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School, she is the daughter of Barbara Boyd of Pikeville and John Medlock of Kiowa Drive E., Lake Kiowa, Texas.

James Benson

Air Force Airman James L. Benson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Benson is the son of James and Susan Benson of Pikeville and is a 2003 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School.

Fraser Dorsey

Air Force Airman Fraser M. Dorsey has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Daryl Dorsey of LaGrange and Lorraine Bruce of Panama City, Fla.

Dustin Clapp

Air Force Airman Dustin J. Clapp has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Kenneth Clapp of Mount Olive and is a 2004 graduate of the high school program at James Sprunt Community College, Kenansville, N.C.

James Austin

Air Force 1st Lt. James H. Austin has been named the Operations Company Grade Officer of the Quarter.

Selection was based on Austin's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement, and other specific achievements and notable accomplishments.

Austin, a communications team chief, is assigned to the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb.

He is the son of Joe Austin of Dudley and Darlene Austin of Seven Springs.

The lieutenant graduated in 1986 from Southern Wayne Senior High School, Dudley, and received a bachelor's degree in the year 2000 from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. In 2003, he earned a master's degree from Troy State University, Ala.

Charles Bowles Jr.

Navy Airman Charles A. Bowles Jr., son of Donna S. Bowles of Goldsboro, recently returned home after a routine, scheduled deployment to the Persian Gulf while assigned to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Beau Altman

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Beau T. Altman, son of Helen M. and Gary W. Altman of Goldsboro, recently returned home after a routine, scheduled deployment to the Persian Gulf while assigned to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Lewis Edwards

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Lewis Edwards, son of Della M. and Lewis Edwards of Goldsboro, recently departed on a routine scheduled deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Hopper, homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Edwards is one of 23 officers and 302 Sailors serving aboard USS Hopper, a multi-mission guided-missile destroyer designed to operate offensively in a mutli-threat environment.

Edwards is a 1989 graduate of Southern Wayne Senior High School of Dudley.
