Armed robbery indictment handed down

A 41-year-old Goldsboro man has been indicted by the Wayne County Grand Jury on three charges stemming from an armed robbery at a motel.
James Kevin Jones of Higgins Street was indicted on charges of breaking and entering, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and armed robbery.
Jones was accused of barging into a room at the Wayne Motel on June 10, assaulting the guest and stealing $75, Goldsboro police said.
The guest, Robert Callahan, 30, of Ellenboro, reported that a black man had kicked in his door, brandished a knife, cut and bit him during a struggle, robbed him of his wallet and fled. Callahan was treated by rescue personnel for his injuries.
Jones was arrested later by police and identified as the assailant.
The case was investigated by Sgt. Grayham Keesler and Officer Ronald McDuffie.
The indictment was one of 38 true bills handed up by the grand jury during its monthly meeting.
Eleven people were indicted on such property charges as breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. Nine others were indicted on drug charges.
The grand jury also handed up six true bills on such fraud charges as forgery, uttering, corporate malfeasance and larceny by an employee.
Three people were indicted for sex offenses, two each for traffic and assault violations and one each on robbery and weapons charges.
Five people were indicted as habitual felons. If they are convicted of a fourth, non-overlapping felony crime, their sentences would be lengthened significantly.
