Achievement Award
Brig. Gen. Rick Rosborg, 4th Fighter Wing Commander at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, presented the Orville Wright Achievement Award to Capt. Dominic Chiapusio, a member of the 333rd Fighter Squadron, as the outstanding graduate of specialized undergraduate pilot training for Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2003. The award is provided by the National Order of Daedalians and was presented Tuesday.
According to the citation, Chiapusio was a peerless performer. His accolades included having a superlative 99.5 percent academic average at Moody Air Force Base.
He earned the number one flight commander ranking in the T-6 and T-38 and was a distinguished graduate, earning the Military Training Award, Flying Excellence Award and AETC Commander's Trophy.
He earned the "Top Gun" award on two of four T-38 check rides.
Book of the Month
The Wayne County Museum's gift shop is having a "Book of the Month" in August that it will be selling for $8, down from the original $10. The book, titled "Old Postcards of Wayne County," is available by calling 734-5023 or stopping by the museum at 116 N. William St. in Goldsboro. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
Joffrey dancers
perform on Sunday
Artistic Productions will present the Joffrey School Dancers of the Joffrey Ballet School of New York City Sunday at 3 p.m. at Goldsboro High School. Tickets cost $10 per person and can be purchased at the Artistic Dance Academy or at the door.
The dancers are the under the direction of Artistic Director Elie Lazar and come from four continents. During the regular season, the company goes on a 25-city tour of the east and west coasts. Lazar, a former principal dancer with the New Jersey Ballet, choreographs, rehearses and tours with the company.
This week, he has been conducting master classes at the Artistic Dance Academy for dance students from Wayne County and eastern North Carolina. The students have studied pointe, variation and partnering.
This is the second year in a row the Joffrey School Dancers has done a public performance in Goldsboro. Last year's was sponsored by Step of Class.
