Jerad Hand

Air Force 2nd Lt. Jerad M. Hand has graduated from undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.

The student completed 190 flying hours in either the T-37, T-38, or T-1A aircraft, 62 flight simulator hours, 342 academic hours, 105 officer training hours, weather training for flight plans, and the fundamentals of aircraft handling, instrumentation, formation, and night flying.

At the end of training, Lt. Hand received an aeronautical rating of pilot in the Air Force.

He is the son of Charles B. and Velvie S. Hand of Goldsboro. He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2002 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.

C.J. Hanna

Air Force Airman 1st Class Christopher J. Hanna has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

He also earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

The son of Julie Santee and Jeff Hanna of Goldsboro, he is a 2003 graduate of Rosewood High School.

Sean Cook

Air Force Airman Sean L. Cook has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

He also earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

The airman is the son of Lesley and Wilbert Cook of Ream St., Goldsboro, and is a 2004 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Clyde Williams

Clyde D. Williams, a 2001 graduate of Rosewood High School, recently worked with recruiters of the Army Recruiting Station in Goldsboro.

Pvt. Williams was stationed in Goldsboro during the first two weeks in this month.

He is the son of Annie Williams of Goldsboro.

Ashley Hedrick

Airman Ashley M. Hedrick graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Stephanie Crane of Goldsboro.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Jeffrey Sutton

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey Sutton, a 1987 graduate of North Lenoir High School, LaGrange, recently returned home after a routine, scheduled deployment to the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Cole, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Sutton's ship deployed along with USS Thorn and USS Gonzalez as part of Surface Strike Group 03-2 in support of the global war on terrorism and Iraqi freedom.

Malcolm Harper

Airman Malcolm Harper has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, Harper earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Charles Harper of LaGrange and is a 2003 graduate of North Lenoir High School.

Jeremy Interrante

Jeremy V. Interrante has been awarded an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship.

The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive tests scores, high school scholastic achievement, school officials' evaluations, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement.

The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, textbooks, laboratory and incidental fees, and a non-taxable monthly stipend during the school year.

Upon graduating from college and completing the ROTC program, the cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the Air Force.

Interrante is the son of Vincent W. and Maribeth T. Interrante of Goldsboro and is a 2004 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Tiffany Divers

Navy Seaman Recruit Tiffany S. Divers, daughter of Veronica L. Harper of Dudley and a 2003 graduate of Southern Wayne High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Divers completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Crespo

Airman Brandy L. Crespo has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, the airmen earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

She is the daughter of Elaine Allen of Goldsboro and is a 2002 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

JaQuoa Best

Army Pvt. JaQuoa C. Best has graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.

The course is designed to train soldiers to establish and maintain stock records and other documents, perform stock record and warehouse inventory, as well as verify bills of lading, contracts, and purchase orders.

The private is the daughter of Pamela G. Best of Pikeville and David W. Brown of Delaine St., Sumter, S.C., and is a 2000 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Thomas Lane

Airman Thomas R. Lane has graduated from the First Term Airman Center at Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Wash.

The center assists first-term, first-duty station airmen in their transition from the controlled environment of basic military training and technical school to a self-disciplined, mission-oriented environment.

Lane is a security forces apprentice with the 92nd Security Forces Squadron at Fairchild.

He is the grandson of Janie L. and David L. Porter of Goldsboro and is a 2003 graduate of Spring Creek High School, Seven Springs.

Travis Jones

Army Pfc. Travis R. Jones has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the nine-week training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.

He is the son of R. Bruce Jones of Mount Olive and Andrea DeBerry of Houston, Texas, and in 1996, the soldier graduated from James Kenan High School, Kenansville.

Steven La Roche

Army Pfc. Steven E. La Roche has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. He also received special training in human relations.

La Roche is the son of Steven E. La Roche of Goldsboro.

Mark Benfield

Mark Benfield recently spent several days in Raleigh working with recruiters of the Army Recruiting Station.

An imagery analyst, Benfield is a 1999 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C. and attended 22 weeks of advanced individual training.

He is the son of Keith and Ellen Benfield of Raleigh.

Jefforey Williams

Jefforey D. Williams, son of Dennis and Linda Williams of Richlands, has been promoted to senior master sergeant with the 916th Security Forces Squadron, a unit of the 916th Air Refueling Wing, the Air Force Reserve tanker unit at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Sgt. Williams is a 1984 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He received an associate's degree from Wilson Technical Collge in 1986 and a bachelor's degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College in 1987.

When not in uniform, he is a shift supervisor, dog handler and team membe with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

He and his son, Leslie, have one son, Chance.
