Goldsboro ballet workshop

The Goldsboro Ballet will begin preparing for its September "Dance Cornucopia" performance with a workshop that begins Monday.
Galina Panova, a ballet theater at East Carolina University, will be preparing an original dance piece for the Goldsboro Ballet. The instructor will be in town to rehearse with the company dancers. Her choreographed work is expected to be a variety of solos.
This is the first time she has created a work for the Goldsboro Ballet, says Artistic Director Peggy Wingate. She came on recommendation from Nora Parker, a ballet teacher in Kinston.
Ms. Panova will work with the company dancers all week.
During the same week, Sayward Russell, a dance major at East Carolina University, will teach the apprentices an original lyrical ballet piece.
Sarah Ray, an actress living in Goldsboro, and Mary Franklin, assistant director of the Goldsboro Ballet, will teach "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" to the company. Ms. Ray will focus on acting; Mrs. Franklin will handle the choreography. The two will also work with the apprentices on a selection from the musical, "Hair."
The new selections will be performed free of charge in the auditorium at Herman Park Center on Friday at 4 p.m. The performance will be open to the public.
There will be further rehearsals during the coming weeks and featured again as part of "Dance Cornucopia," scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m. at Wayne Community College.
