Raza Festival seeks vendors

WARSAW -- The deadline is Sept. 10 to sign up for a booth at the second annual Raza Festival on Sept. 25 at the Veteran Park in Warsaw.

The festival will go from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in celebration of the independence of Mexico and Central and South America. The event is being organized by Amexcan Duplin to include activities for the entire family, with live Latin music, food, children's games, a raffle, a dance performance.

Seniors plan

day trip to Edenton

KENANSVILLE -- Services for the Aged is sponsoring a senior trip to the Rocky Hock Playhouse Theater in Edenton on Aug. 5.

The group will depart from the senior center on Thursday, Aug. 5, at 9:30 a.m. and return the same evening at about 8:45 p.m. Seniors will be going to see the theater production entitled "Under His Wings," which is a biblical love story about Ruth and Boaz.

The cost of the trip is $48 per person, which includes an evening meal, ticket admission and transportation. The deadline for the money and reservations is Friday, July 30. For information call Services for the Aged at 910-296-2140.

Federal funds offered to students

KENANSVILLE -- If you need help going back to school, it is possible that the Workforce Investment Act program at James Sprunt Community College can help you meet your goals.

The WIA program is a federally funded program designed to assist individuals who enroll in an approved vocational or technical curriculum to overcome employment barriers. Those who meet the criteria could be eligible for tuition, books and supplies.

Visit the Duplin County JobLink Career Center in the McGowen Building or call Mary Ann Hall at 910-296-2444 or Travis D. Newkirk at 910-296-1429. Hours of operation for summer are from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Sprunt to hold

orientation

for new students

The James Sprunt Community College Basic Skills Department will hold new student orientation for the fall semester on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Room 219 of the Boyette Building.

This session is required for all students under age 18. New student orientation will also be held each Friday during the semester at the given time and location.
