Hilary Russo of Goldsboro has been cast in The North Carolina Theatre production of "The King and I," starring Tony-nominated actor Lou Diamond Phillips.
Phillips is reviving his role as the King that he played on Broadway in 1996. Ms. Russo plays one of his Royal Wives and Chorus.
Performance dates are Saturday, July 10, through Sunday, July 18, at the BTI Center for Performing Arts in Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh. A preview performance followed by a question-and-answer session will be held for students and teachers on Friday, July 9. Cost is $10 and ID is required.

Dog wash
The Wayne County Humane Society will have a dog wash Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Pet Supplies Plus. Cost is $10 for a wash and $14 for wash and nail clipping. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society's low-cost spay/neuter and educational programs.
Center Street Jam
Dipping and dancing will be the featured events Thursday for the Center Street Jam.
Billy Scott & the Prophets will perform a variety of their beach music between 5:30 and 8 p.m. The band is in the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame in Pine Bluff.
During intermission there will be a doughnut dipping contest. Sherry Archibald, promotions director for the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation, said that volunteers for the contest would have two minutes to dip dougnuts in a variety of sauces. The one with the most "dipped doughnuts" in their box will win a year's supply of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
People are encouraged to bring their children, lawn chairs, dancing feet and an appetite -- taste buds will be tempted by Pizza Inn, Ashley's Hot Dogs, barbecue by the Downtown Elk's Lodge, and ribs from Billie's Restaurant. Coca-Cola is one of the DGDC annual sponsors and donates all proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club.
Lemonade will be made and served by the Wayne County Historical Association.
The Jam will be held at the Waynesborough House parking lot on South Center St. in downtown Goldsboro from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The next Center Street Jam is scheduled for July 22 featuring the Coastline Band.
