Phillip Lampron, a graduate of North Duplin High School, received a North Carolina Teaching Fellow Scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
He also received the Lois W. Precythe Memorial Scholarship of $5,000, to be divided over four years of college, as well as a $500 Tri-County Electric Scholarship.
Lampron plans to prepare for a career in education as a teacher and a coach.
He is the son of Phyllis and Billy Tucker of the Rones Chapel community and Allen and Fran Lampron of Reidsville. He is the grandson of Bobby and Shirley Kelly of Mount Olive. His step-grandmother is Mattie Tucker of Warsaw.
Heather Michelle Hayes received a bachelor's degree in environmental design in architecture from North Carolina State University during 2004 spring commencement exercises. A graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and a recipient of the Park Scholarship, she was a member of Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society in Architecture and the University Scholars Program. She is the daughter of Gene and Cathryn Bradford Hayes and the granddaughter Floyd and Betty Evans of Goldsboro and Carmen Bradford of Goldsboro and the late Paul Bradford.
John Robert Carr has been awarded a scholarship to attend Rice University in Houston, Texas, in August to pursue a degree in architecture. He received a bachelor of industrial design degree and a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from North Carolina State University during commencement exercises on Dec. 17, 2003. Carr graduated with honors and was a member of the University Scholars Program. A graduate of the School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey B. Carr of Goldsboro.
Jake Yahnker, a student at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, was named to the dean's list for the 2004 spring semester. He is the son of Ed and Lee Yahnker of Goldsboro and is a graduate of Rosewood High School.
Shannon Greene earned a 3.5 or higher grade point average for the spring semester and is on the dean's list at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg. A rising senior, she is the daughter of John and Jane Greene of Goldsboro.

Ashley Mewborn of LaGrange has been named to receive a $2,500 merit scholarship at Mount Olive College. She is the daughter of Junior and Debbie Mewborn and a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School. Merit scholarships are awarded on the basis of grades, class rank and SAT scores, and is renewable annually.

Joshua Allen of Goldsboro has been awarded North Carolina Wesleyan College's Wesleyan Trustee's Scholarship for the 2004 fall semester. The four-year academic scholarship is awarded to first-time students based on high overall academic standing.
Michael Fields of Dudley has been named to receive a $4,000 Honors Scholarship at Mount Olive College. The merit-based scholarship is renewable each year. Fields is the son of Tracy Fields and Mary Lewis and is a graduate of Spring Creek High School. He will enter Mount Olive College in the fall.
Appalachian State University has released its dean's and chancellor's lists for the spring 2004 semester. Mary Lynn Brosenne and Samantha Josephine Harlow, both of Wayne County, are on the chancellor's list. Elizabeth Leslie Lancaster, Jessica Lynn Newsome, Ryan Christopher Spell, and Moriah Sue Tingler, all of Wayne County, are on the dean's list.
Misty Cordell and Katherine Kresge of Goldsboro graduated from Liberty University. Miss Cordell received a bachelor of science in nursing, and Miss Kresge received a bachelor of science in communication studies with a concentration in broadcast journalism.
Vanessa Smith of Goldsboro achieved dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., for the spring quarter of 2004. Miss Smith is a painting major. She is the daughter of Lloyd Smith and Karen Smith.
Amanda Bragg represented Spring Creek High School at the 2004 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar in Raleigh on June 11-13 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. She joined more than 180 students from across the state for the three-day leadership training seminar. She is the daughter of John and Marita Bragg of Goldsboro and is a rising junior at Spring Creek High School.
Jennifer Lauren Dudley of Goldsboro graduated magna cum laude with an associate's degree from Louisburg College in Louisburg.
James Head of Goldsboro graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry during 2004 spring commencement exercises at Duke University. He will attend medical school this fall at NYU School of Medicine in New York City. He is the son of Ernest and Carla Head of Goldsboro.

Four Mount Olive College students will compete in the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Denver, Colo., July 9 through 12.
Members of the organization who placed first or second in the State Leadership Conference Competition of the North Carolina State Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda in April will represent the college on the national level.
At the competition, Rebecca Whitley of Mount Olive received first place in business communications and the future business executive categories. Jessica Murphy of Pikeville received second place in the future business executives category. Frank Spallino of Manteo received first place in the marketing category. Joy Daughtry of LaGrange received second place in the quantitative methods category. These students will compete in their respective categories at the national event. Sonya McCoy, adviser, will also attend.
Phi Beta Lambda provides opportunities for students to enhance their self-confidence and leadership skills, sharpen public speaking skills, build friendships, apply money management techniques, network with business leaders and acquire job readiness skills.
Two Wayne County youths recently attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
Sarah Finch and David Sullivan attended the week-long event at the National 4-H Center.
The conference was founded in 1985 and has become the premier leadership program in the country for high school students. It offers top students throughout the nation the opportunity to discuss and debate current events and leading issues with national leaders through group discussions and simulations.
Participants also learn to analyze concepts, evaluate critical information and make decisions.
Ms. Finch and Sullivan said it built up their confidence and gave them an opportunity to make friends with other youths from across the nation. It also helped them understand more how the government works and how they can actually be involved.
Both youths received a certificate of merit and will be able to get letters of recommendation to any university they want to attend.
