Three arrested
in store robbery
Three men from Wilson were arrested early today by Wayne County Sheriff's officers and charged with three counts of felony armed robbery.
Deputies had been notified of an armed robbery at a convenience store at N.C. 111 and N.C. 55. After they got a description of the suspects and their car, Sgt. Carter Hicks stopped the car on U.S. 117 South. Each man had a large amount of money, totaling about $900, deputies said.
Carlos Antonio Ramos, 31, Felix Hernandez, 29, and Omar Antonio Venegas, 23, were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $70,000 secured bond.
Cpl. Craig Edwins, Deputy William Wells and Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden assisted in the case.
More charges
in scam on elderly
A 33-year-old woman from Newton Grove was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with three felony offenses in connection with a car theft and an identity fraud.
Louretha Mae King, a former Goldsboro resident, was charged with larceny, financial identity fraud and obtaining property by false pretense. Her secured bond was set at $150,000.
Ms. King was accused of stealing a car June 18, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said. The car, valued at $10,000, was recovered and returned to its owner. Then she was accused of using another person's identity and financial information to get a car from a Goldsboro dealership, Farfour said. The car, valued at $11,000, has been recovered and returned to its owner.
Ms. King had been charged by Goldsboro police with 13 felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense. She was accused of using a fraudulent power of attorney to withdraw money from an elderly victim's bank account. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 secured bond.
Liquor theft
A Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with the theft of liquor from two ABC stores in Goldsboro.
Angelo Nicholas Pesce, 26, of North George Street was charged with one felony count of breaking and entering and two misdemeanor counts of larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Pesce was accused of breaking into the ABC store at 206 E. Mulberry St. and stealing a bottle of liquor and then stealing another bottle from the store at 1316-E W. Grantham St., Maj. Glenn Odom said.
Drug charges
Two people were arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with several drug violations.
Raheed Farod Conway, 18, of Pittsboro was charged with two felonies, manufacturing marijuana and possession with intent to manufacture marijuana, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
Clovis Lester Douglas, 26, of Salem Church Road was charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was jailed in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond. Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers assisted in the case.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $11,600 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A passenger from Goldsboro was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on North Spence Avenue near Royall Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Cleaveland Morgan, 50, of South Carolina Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was riding with Archie McCalop, 54, of South Johnson Street, Mount Olive. The other driver, Borek Foldyna, 20, of Cashwell Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $800.
*One driver was injured and damages were estimated at $10,800 in a two-car crash at 4:05 p.m. June 15 at Wayne Memorial Drive and Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Veronica Jean Carmichael, 54, of Duckridge Drive, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Stephanie B. Hart, 16, of Antioch Road, Pikeville, was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Ms. Hart had stopped, then started across the intersection and the eastbound auto that she was driving collided with Ms. Carmichael's northbound car.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Jewelry, video-game equipment, a DVD player and loose change were stolen Thursday after a window was broken in an apartment in the 600 block of Park Avenue, Goldsboro police said. The resident, S. Walker, estimated the property's value at $5,340. No damage estimate was reported.
*Three DVD players, 40 DVD movies and loose change were stolen between Sunday and Thursday after a window was smashed at a home in the 200 block of Strawberry Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, James Anthony Medlin, estimated the value of his property at $1,750 and damage at $20.
*A gray, four-door 1990 Subaru was stolen before dawn today from the 1700 block of East Holly Street, police said. The owner and resident, S.L. Foster, put a $2,000 value on the car.
Man found
The body of a Goldsboro man was found before dawn today in his yard with a gunshot wound, a Goldsboro police report said.
Michael Simon Morgan, 22, of 103 Holly Road was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The body then transferred to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
Police Sgt. David Kelly said he would await the autopsy results before announcing the cause of death. He said three handguns were seized from the home, including one that will be checked to determine if it had been used.
