Change of command

Col. Kenneth Lynn will take command of the 4th Maintenance Group from Col. Donald Chew in a ceremony on Wednesday.

The new group commander comes from Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington D.C., where he was a student at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces since August 2003.

Maj. Erik Rundquist assumes command of the 4th Security Forces Squadron from Lt. Col. Richard McComb on Wednesday. Maj. Rundquist comes from Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where he attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Holiday bus schedule

The Goldsboro Wayne Transportation Authority will operate on a holiday schedule on July 5.

The bus service will operate from 9:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and the van service will operate on its normal schedule. Passengers requesting van service must call and schedule transportation on Friday, July 2, no later than 2:30 p.m.

Small Town project

The public is invited to a meeting at 6 p.m. on June 29 in the training room of the Mount Olive Fire Department at 401 N. Center St. to hear what the Small Town Development Committee has accomplished in its first year of trying to improve downtown Mount Olive.

Light refreshments will be served after the meeting, which is expected to last about an hour.

The committee began the project a year ago, and accomplishments have included identifying properties for sale and rent, as well as coordinating color schemes, signs, streetscape designs and group promotional events for downtown.
