Board vacancies

Goldsboro needs a few good men -- and women -- to fill vacancies on boards and commissions.

The City Council wants to fill 14 spots but still needs some names to fill in the blanks. The openings are on the Community Affairs Committee, with six seats open; the Appearance Commission, three seats; Board of Adjustment, two seats, and one apiece on the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee, Travel and Tourism Council, and the Historic District Commission.

Terms range from two to four years.

Call the city manager's office at 580-4330 for more information.

Red Cross courses

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer challenge courses through the end of the year.

These are courses where people take just a written exam and a skills test instead of taking the course. They must score a minimum of 80 percent in order to pass each course and receive a certification card. Courses will be offered for CPR, first aid and automated external defibrillator.

Anyone who fails the challenge course will be able to take the next recertification class.

The cost is $20 and may be paid at the challenge class.

Challenge day courses will be offered July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Dec. 7. Challenge evening courses will be offered July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 9, Oct. 14, Nov. 11 and Dec. 9.

For more information or to register, call the Red Cross office at 735-7201.

Bloodmobile

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lowe's. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
