Elderly scam
Louretha Mae King, 33, of Dudley Road, Newton Grove has been charged with 13 counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
She is accused of using fraudulent power of attorney to withdraw money from an elderly woman's bank account. She has been charged on a June 16 warrant and placed under $250,000 bond pending a court appearance today.
Goldsboro Police Investigator Trey Ball charged her Tuesday, but the investigation is continuing. Assisting in the investigation are the Mount Olive Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Drug arrest
Robin Ann West of Mobile Circle, Dudley has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and drug paraphernalia following an investigation and search of her home by the Goldsboro Wayne County Drug Squad. Crime Stoppers assisted in the investigation.
Robbery
Decarlos Donte Kelly of Emmaus Church Road said someone robbed him at gunpoint in the roadway of the intersection of Hazelwood and Brandy drives in the Hazelwood subdivision.
He said in a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at 2:15 a.m. today that a skinny black man with long braids asked him to go for a ride in his white Crown Victoria. He said the man pulled over at the intersection and pointed a bronze colored revolver at him and told him to get out of the vehicle. He said the man then reached into his pocket and removed $200 in cash.
Investigations
*The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a break-in where someone reportedly entered an unlocked 1997 Ford Ranger owned by Ulrike Duvall on Genoa Road and stole a $200 metal detector.
*The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating a reported theft of six money orders with a total value of $2,745 by an employee working at the Smokers Express and Pantry No. 925 convenience store at 1818 N. Berkeley Blvd.
Moped stolen
Police are investigating the theft of a 2002 green Tomos moped worth $1,000 and owned by William Lee Bivens of Frank Street. It was reported taken from the front yard of a residence on Fourth Street.
The police report said an off-duty sheriff's deputy, M. Cox, detained Donovon Migal Royal, 20, of Talbert Drive on Stronach Avenue until he could be apprehended by police. Royal was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and resisting an officer. Bond was $1,000.
Traffic accidents
Seven people were injured and damages of more than $60,000 resulted form recent traffic accidents.
*The state Highway Patrol investigated a two-car collision Sunday morning on Wayne Memorial Drive in which a passenger in one of the cars was treated and released at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Roneka Darden was injured when the car she was riding in was struck by a driver who had been stopped at a stop sign. The report said Dale Franklin Esterline of Springfield, N.C., failed to yield the right of way when he pulled the 2002 Dodge he was driving off Saulston Road and onto Wayne Memorial into the path of a 1997 Chevrolet driven by Montonia Darden Rouse of Antioch Road. The drivers and another passenger were unhurt. The Dodge sustained $7,400 damage, and the Chevrolet sustained $3,400 damage.
*Goldsboro police investigated a collision Tuesday afternoon on Berkeley Boulevard. Neither driver was hurt. Andrew Reid Wilson of LaGrange was charged with failure to reduce speed after the 2001 Ford he was driving struck the rear of a 1994 Chevrolet driven by Joseph Ramon Vasquez of Bridle Path Drive. Damage was $1,000 to the Ford and $3,000 to the Chevrolet.
*A driver was injured and both cars were demolished at 11 p.m. Monday at North Herman Street and Park Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Willie Spencer Best, 32, of Woodland Church Road, Dudley, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He also was charged with not having an operator's license. Geneva Delores Phillips, 16, of Woodside Circle, was charged with a yield violation. Police said the westbound auto that Ms. Phillips was driving collided with the northbound car that Best was operating. The impact pushed the Phillips car into a traffic sign. The cars were valued at $9,000. Damage to the sign was put at $300.
*Five passengers were injured and damages were estimated at $4,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Tristain Salinas, 9, Ray Salinas, 3, and Kaila Salinas, 8, all of Zion Church Road, Mount Olive; Julie Anna Gutierrez, 10, of Alton Circle, Seven Springs, and an unidentified person -- were released after emergency-room treatment. Their driver, Charity Marie Salinas, 28, of Zion Church Road, was charged with a stop-sign violation after the southbound minivan that she was driving collided with an eastbound minivan. The other driver was identified as Merian D. Everett, 43, of Fayetteville.
*A driver from Grifton was injured and damage was estimated at $15,000 in a one-vehicle wreck at 2:24 p.m. Wednesday on Miller's Chapel Road near Thoroughfare Road, the Highway Patrol said. Kevin Maurice Mercer, 37, was treated, admitted and then released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. No charges were filed after the tractor-trailer that he was driving ran off the right side into a ditch, struck several trees and stopped partially on the road.
*Two three-vehicle collisions occurred at about 9:20 a.m. June 15 on U.S. 117 near Mount Carmel Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. In the first wreck, drivers James Lee Best, 55, of Short Road, Pikeville, and Bobby Ray Thompsom, 47, of Rocky Mount had stopped for traffic. A third driver, Clyde Earl Dixon, 40, of Rocky Mount, failed to stop in time and was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a rear-end collision, troopers said. Damages were set at $9,000. Moments later, another motorist, Roger Milton Daughtry, 70, of Granville Drive, stopped because of Dixon's disabled pickup. But another driver, Joseph Rudolph Edmundson, 66, of Stuckey Road, Fremont, failed to stop in time and also was charged with failure to reduce speed, troopers said. Damages in the second wreck were put at $11,000.
