Motorcycle theft
The larceny of a motorcycle on Thursday from the 100 block of Rocky Court has been solved by Wayne County sheriff's officers with the arrest of three 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old.
Carl B. Rhue Jr. had reported the theft of his 1999 Suzuki 750 motorcycle. The cycle, valued at $6,000, was recovered in woods near N.C. 111 and Mount Carmel Church Road, Detective Sgts. Shawn Harris and Carl Lancaster said.
The older teens -- Justin Ray Ingram of Mount Carmel Church Road, Joshua Daniel Kearney of Britt Street, Pikeville, and Derrick Wayne Crumpler of N.C. 111 North -- were charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods. All three were released from custody on $5,000 unsecured bonds.
The 15-year-old also was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was taken before juvenile authorities.
Marijuana found
Sheriff Carey Winders and three deputies display about 40 marijuana plants that were found and pulled up near Lanetown Road in eastern Wayne County.
The plants, from 3 inches to 4 feet high, had an estimated street value of $96,000 at maturity. The plants were spotted by officers on the sheriff's helicopter.
Vehicles damaged
Graffiti was spray-painted on five vehicles and a residential brick fence was damaged in the 600 block of Park Avenue, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Damage was estimated at $500 to each of four vehicles, $1,000 to the other and $500 to the fence.
The vehicles were owned by Stephanie B. Walker, Jason Gene Wiseman, Gene Taylor, Patricia Turlington and Lt. Col. Patrick Pence, all of Goldsboro. The fence was owned by Jerry Musgrave of Goldsboro.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Four rims and tires were stolen from a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu at Chevrolet-Cadillac of Goldsboro at 3300 E. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway. The property was valued at $1,700.
*Fifty $20 bills were stolen from a bank deposit bag. The $1,000 belonged to Spence Market at 900 N. Spence Ave.
*A DVD player, video-game equipment, two sports jerseys and two sports hats were stolen from a home in the 300 block of South Herman Street. The resident, Princess K. Boney, put a $1,442 value on the property.
$23,000 settlement
A young girl and her family have received a $23,000 out-of-court settlement for her injuries in a traffic collision in 2002 in Wayne County.
Ashley Grimes, then 11, was injured in the collision on Aug. 10, 2002, on Stoney Creek Church Road. She was riding in a car driven by her father Philip Grimes, who also was a plaintiff in the lawsuit. The girl and her father, who now live at Dudley, were treated in the emergency room for their injuries.
Fasid B. Khalid of Fairfax, Va., was driving a rental car on a side road. The suit alleges that he pulled from the intersection and collided with Grimes' vehicle.
The plaintiff's lawyer, Carmaletta Fuerst of Rocky Mount, was paid $5,750 and medical costs of $2,972.06 also were paid from the settlement.
