Ten Wayne schools getting new principals

The Wayne County Board of Education approved its annual reorganization plan for administrators on Monday. The plan, which will go into effect July 1, puts new principals in 10 schools.
One principal will take over duties at the central office. Four assistant principals are promoted to principals. Five principals have been reassigned to other schools and one interim principal will officially become the principal in the school where she was assigned.
Additionally, five assistant principals were transferred to other schools and 10 new assistant principals were named.
Cromartie
Ed Cromartie, principal at Southern Academy, will succeed Gerald Whitley as assistant superintendent of personnel. Whitley is retiring.
Cromartie has been an educator for 27 years, the last five as principal at Southern Academy. From 1998 through 1999, he was assistant principal at Southern Wayne High School, and was vocational director for the county schools from 1992-1998.
He has also been a vocational director for the former Goldsboro city schools, an education consultant for the Department of Education in Raleigh, and taught vocational education classes in Fayetteville for seven years before moving to Wayne County.
He holds master's degrees from Fayetteville State University and East Carolina University, and a bachelor of science degree in intermediate education from Fayetteville State.
Dr. Steven Taylor, superintendent of schools, proposed the list of personnel reassignments to the board.
New Principals
Assistant principals promoted to principals are:
*Catherine Eubanks, from Eastern Wayne Middle to Mount Olive Middle.
*Marvin McCoy, remaining at Dillard Middle.
*Keith Wright, from Spring Creek High to Southern Academy.
*Craig Uzzell, from Charles B. Aycock High to Belfast Academy.
Eubanks
Mrs. Eubanks, the assistant principal at Eastern Wayne Middle since 2002, will succeed Richard Sauls at Mount Olive Middle. She began her teaching career in 1994 as a sixth grade teacher in Franklin County, having earned a master's degree in middle grades education from East Carolina University and a master's degree in instructional technology from North Carolina State University. She also has a bachelor's degree in middle grades education from ECU.
McCoy
Tania Horton, principal at Dillard Middle, plans to relocate. Stepping into her role will be McCoy, an assistant principal at the school for the past year. Before that, he had been an assistant principal at Goldsboro High for two years.
From 1999 to 2001, he taught math at Brogden Middle and was a JROTC instructor in Duplin County from 1996 to 1999. He earned a master's degree in school administration from Fayetteville State University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Methodist College, becoming an educator after retiring from a career in the U.S. Army.
Wright
Wright, an assistant principal at Spring Creek since 2001, will replace Cromartie as principal at Southern Academy. He has also been an assistant principal at Goldsboro High from 2000 to 2001 and at Eastern Wayne Middle from 1997 to 2000.
Before becoming an administrator, he taught music in Clinton from 1975 to 1997. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from ECU.
Uzzell
Uzzell has been an assistant principal at Aycock for a year. He will replace Charles Van Hoy as principal at Belfast Academy.
Since 1999, Uzzell gained administrative experience by serving as assistant principal at Tommy's Road Elementary, Southern Wayne High, and Brogden Middle. He taught physical education at Brogden Primary from 1992 to 1999. His own education includes receiving a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in school administration from East Carolina University.

Principals moving to other schools are:
*Wendy Hooks, Grantham School, to Brogden Primary.
*Gene Byrd, Southern Wayne High, to Eastern Wayne Middle.
*Sandra Scott, Rosewood Elementary, to Grantham.
*Jenny Whitfield, Brogden Primary, to Rosewood Elementary
*Richard Sauls, Mount Olive Middle, to Southern Wayne High.
Hooks
Scott
Mrs. Hooks, principal at Grantham since 2002, will succeed Jenny Whitfield as the new principal of Brogden Primary. Mrs. Whitfield will take over the reigns at Rosewood Elementary for Sandra Scott, who in turn becomes principal at Grantham.
Mrs. Hooks was assistant principal at Tommy's Road Elementary for two years, the curriculum facilitator at Eastern Wayne Elementary from 1999 to 2000, and has also taught at Meadow Lane Elementary and Brogden Primary schools.
She started her career in 1989 with Sampson County Schools. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from East Carolina University and master's degrees in administration from ECU and elementary education from Fayetteville State University.
Whitfield
Mrs. Whitfield, principal at Brogden Primary since 2002, was assistant principal at Carver Elementary from 1999 to 2002 and taught elementary grades from 1972 to 1998. She earned a master's degree in school administration and a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from East Carolina University.
Before becoming a principal, Mrs. Scott served as assistant principal at Rosewood Elementary from 1996 to 2000. She also worked as assistant principal at Grantham from 1990 to 1996 and taught at Goldsboro Junior High from 1982 to 1992. She began her teaching career in 1970 in the former Goldsboro City Schools.
She holds a master's degree in educational administration from East Carolina University and a bachelor's degree from Howard University.
Sauls
Sauls, who came out of retirement last year to become principal of Mount Olive Middle, will succeed Byrd as Southern Wayne's principal.
Sauls was principal at Rosewood High School from 2000 to 2003, Rosewood Middle from 1999 to 2000, Greenwood Middle from 1996 to 1999, and Carver Heights Elementary from 1994 to 1996. He has also been principal at Norwayne Middle and Fremont Elementary.
He earned master's degrees in education and administration and a bachelor's degree in education from East Carolina University.
Byrd
Byrd joins Eastern Wayne Middle after a year at Southern Wayne. Before that, he was principal at Spring Creek High. He has also been a teacher, coach and administrator since 1977 and served as Southern Wayne's assistant principal from 1999 to 2001 and in-school suspension coordinator from 1996 to 1998.
He received his master's degree in school administration and a bachelor's degree in social studies from East Carolina University.
Adams
Tasha Adams, interim principal at Edgewood Community Developmental School for the last six months, will officially take over as principal at the school.
She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Johnson C. Smith University and a master's degree in education administration and curriculum supervision from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Her other experience includes being assistant principal at Brogden Primary, resource teacher at Fremont STARS Elementary and Norwayne Middle, and worked in Charlotte from 1989 to 2001, where she taught special education classes.

*Linda Brown Rouse, a teacher at Dillard Middle, to Brogden Primary.
*Heather Holzworth, curriculum facilitator at Fremont STARS Elementary, to Eastern Wayne Elementary.
*George Franklin, a teacher in the Johnston County school system, to Goldsboro High.
*Gail Sasser, a teacher at Grantham School, to Goldsboro Middle.
*John Twitty, a Brogden Middle School teacher, to Mount Olive Middle.
*Mary Kay James, a counselor at Belfast Academy, to Northwest Elementary.
