Seven graduates of Wayne County public schools have been named recipients of the 2004 Emmet and Mary Robinson Trust Fund scholarships.

Two Charles B. Aycock High School graduates, Eman Alawar and Jennifer Williamson, will receive $3,000 scholarships.

Eman plans to attend North Carolina State University as a pre-medical student. Jennifer plans to enroll at Duke University as a biology and pre-medical major.

Three Southern Wayne High School graduates, Krystal Boykin, Sterling Tadlock and John Tart III, will receive $2,000 scholarships.

Krystal plans to attend East Carolina University in the pre-med program. Sterling plans to major in biology and pre-med at Duke University. John plans to enroll at North Carolina State University and major in poultry and animal science and pre-veterinary studies.

Janae Burns, a graduate of Southern Wayne, and Sarah Snowden, a graduate of Charles B. Aycock, will receive $1,500 scholarships.

Janae plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and major in pre-medical studies. Sarah plans to study nursing at Wayne Community College.

The trust fund was set up by Emmet and Mary Robinson to award scholarships to residents of Wayne County who attend a public high school. The recipients must also have some financial need and intend to continue their education in the fields of medicine, nursing, agriculture or in the ministry of the Presbyterian or Episcopal churches.

The scholarship is renewable each year based on satisfactory academic standing and maintenance of the declared major field of study.

Dr. Sandra McCullen, the schools' associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction, said, "We are proud of the students selected by the Awards Committee of the Emmet and Mary Robinson Trust and are especially grateful for the foresight of the Robinson family to set up this trust fund to benefit the students of Wayne County public schools. The selected students and Wayne County will reap great benefits from their generosity for many years to come."

Last year's scholarship recipients are Leslie Lawrence, C.B. Aycock High; Mary Sealy, Eastern Wayne High; Erica Reid and Shannon Armstrong, Goldsboro High; Erica Pigford, Haley Peacock and Jason Thornton, Southern Wayne High; and Stephanie Williams, Spring Creek High.
