Sheriff's dog helps
with break-in arrest
A Wayne County sheriff's dog helped deputies arrest a man before dawn today after a break-in at a barn in the 300 block of Lee's Country Club Road near Mount Olive.
The resident saw a man in the barn and approached him with a shotgun, but the man jumped out of a broken window and ran away, a Wayne County sheriff's report said.
C-shift patrol deputies were notified of the break-in at 4:41 a.m., and they arrived at the barn. The deputies, including William Wells with his dog, Emmy, trailed the man. After a brief chase, deputies and Mount Olive police apprehended a man who was identified by the resident.
William Billy Bowden of Edenton Road, Mount Olive, was charged with breaking and entering. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Sgt. Carter Hicks, Cpl. Craig Edwins and Deputy Chuck Schaeffer assisted in the arrest.
Traffic accidents
Eleven people were injured and damages were estimated at $92,600 in 11 recent wrecks in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at North Berkeley Boulevard and New Hope Road, Goldsboro police said. Joann W. Mobley, 66, of Langston Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other motorist, Christina Lea Myers, 21, of Burtus Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said she had left a parking lot and her car collided with Ms. Mobley's northbound car in the center lane.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 11 p.m. Saturday on Nahunta Road near Morris Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver fled after the SUV ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned in a field. The SUV, valued at $5,000, was registered to Amy C. Edenfield of Nahunta Road, Pikeville.
*A pedestrian was struck at 11:25 p.m. Friday in the Pinewood Square parking lot on North Spence Avenue by a car, police said. Veronica H. Graham, 48, of Alpha Court was released after emergency-room treatment. The car was registered to Chanda Blizzard Thigpen of Beulaville. Police later arrested the driver, Christopher Brandon Branson, 17, of Mount Olive, and charged him with felony hit and run. The passenger, Georgianna Kaye Blizzard, 16, of Beulaville, was charged with felony aiding and abetting a hit and run. Branson was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $8,000 secured bond, and Ms. Blizzard was jailed in lieu of an $8,500 secured bond.
*Three passengers were injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 in a three-car wreck at 4:40 a.m. Friday at Tommy's and Hare roads, the Highway Patrol said. Lovelle Johnson, 27, Andrewio Fennell, 10, and Jordan Fennell, 9, all of Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Their driver, Katrina F. Johnson, 31, of Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Ms. Johnson's northbound auto collided with a westbound car driven by Calvin Banks Jr., 59, of Chancery Drive. The impact forced Ms. Johnson's car into a stopped southbound auto driven by Ashley Brooks McCullen, 16, of Stan Ray Road, Fremont.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were set at $8,500 in a three-car crash at 8:06 a.m. Thursday at Wayne Memorial Drive and Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christopher R. Miller, 28, of Heron Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. Another motorist, Edith Elaine Mercer, 32, of Barrier Place, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The first driver, Erik Miramon Alejandro, 19, of Rackley Drive, had stopped to make a left turn, troopers said.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 at 2:20 p.m. Thursday at Old Grantham and Woodland Church roads, the Highway Patrol said. John Jacob Smith, 72, of U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley, was charged with a stop-sign violation. Troopers said Smith had stopped at the sign and then started a left turn and his car collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by Andrew John Fazakerly, 23, of Old Grantham Road.
*Damages were put at $10,000 in a two-truck collision at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 70 and Oak Forest, the Highway Patrol said. Timothy John Reece Jr., 27, of Deep Run, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Harry Vonzel Hunter, 43, of Grimesland.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and his car was demolished at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on New Hope Road near May Road, the Highway Patrol said. Deshante Lakesha McNeal, 31, of Hardingwood Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed after her car struck standing water, ran off the left side out of control, came back across the road and off the right side, hit a driveway culvert and overturned. The car was valued at $13,000; other damage was set at $500.
*A car was demolished at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday on Pecan Road near Mitchell Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jenny Frances Castillo, 20, of Timber Hollow Drive, Dudley, escaped serious injury but was charged with reckless driving. The car ran off the right side, struck a concrete bridge rail and then careened off the left side. She said she had swerved to avoid an animal in the road. The car was valued at $12,000; other damage was put at $500.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 at 9:25 p.m. May 17 at N.C. 111 and Dollard Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Senus Lofton, 51, of Prayer House Lane, Dudley, and Katrina O. Pearce, 31, of Brookwood Drive were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Pearce was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said she had started a left turn and the car she was driving collided with Lofton's oncoming, northbound pickup.
*Both drivers were injured and both trucks were demolished in a wreck at 4:05 p.m. May 17 at N.C. 55 and Camp Jubilee Road, the Highway Patrol said. Reyna Morales, 36, of Grandview Drive, Albertson, and the other driver, James Alfred Shelley, 31, of Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Morales was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Morales' northbound pickup collided with Shelley's westbound truck. The trucks were valued at $12,000; other damage was set at $100.
Drug charges
Two Wayne County men have been arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Ramon Dequell Williams, 22, of Adler Lane was charged Saturday night with possession with intent to sell marijuana and misdemeanor possession of a concealed firearm. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
*Derrick Collins, 42, of South Leslie Street was charged Sunday night with possession of heroin and driving while his license was revoked. He also was held on two outstanding arrest warrants. He was jailed in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
Break-ins
A Wayne County teen-ager faces more charges in connection with residential break-ins.
Jackson
William Allen Jackson IV, 17, of O'Berry Road has been charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with breaking and entering and larceny from a home in Rosewood.
Jackson was accused of using a brick to break into a home March 29, Detective Sgt. Tony Morris said. Some property has been recovered and returned to the owner, Morris said. Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour and Cpl. Joe Smith assisted in the case.
Jackson's secured bond was set at $35,000. His total secured bond on all recent charges now is $124,800. More charges are possible, Capt. George Raecher said.
Car stolen
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A man was making a phone call Friday night from a booth at a convenience store at U.S. 70 West and N.C. 581 but left his car running, sheriff's deputies said. Before he could finish, he said two men jumped in the car and drove away. Kenneth Wayne Sasser of Goldsboro said the green, four-door 1996 Mercury was worth $2,495.
*A black 1986 Toyota pickup was burned in the 100 block of Jake Drive, deputies said. The owner and resident, Luis Alonzo Ramirez, said someone had ignited something in the gas tank. Damage was estimated at $800.
*A black and white Japanese kita dog was stolen Friday from the owner's yard in the 300 block of Kornegay Street, Goldsboro police said. The owner, Vickie Daniels, said the dog was worth $300. The thief had cut a cable to get the dog.
