$10,000 stolen
SEVEN SPRINGS -- About $10,000 was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a safe in a home in the 300 block of West Spring Street in Seven Springs, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said.
The resident, Danny L. Carter, also reported the theft of appraisal papers, valued $200.
No sign of forced entry was found. Carter told deputies that he believed someone with a key had committed the crime.
Body found
The body of a 36-year-old man was found Wednesday in his home, a Wayne County sheriff's report said. The victim was identified as Michael J. Smith of 204 Friendswood Drive.
Smith's employer became concerned when Smith did not report for work in Wilson, and notified deputies. An officer went to the home, found it unlocked, went inside and found the body.
The death was not the result of foul play, sheriff's Capt. George Raecher said.
Three hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $55,300 in eight recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-car collision at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday at Wayne Avenue and Devereaux Street, Goldsboro police said. Sharon Garrett Hinnant, 42, of North Herman Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Tameshia Renee Spain, 28, of Peachtree Street was charged with a yield violation. Damages were set at $2,300.
*A driver was injured and both trucks were demolished in a wreck at 10:13 a.m. May 6 at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Mahlon Eugene Parks, 54, of Mark Edwards Road, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, stabilized and transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He was listed today in serious condition. Parks was going south on Beston Road, and troopers said his pickup truck collided with an eastbound pickup driven by George Frank Seymour III, 50, of Northwest Fourth Street, Snow Hill. No charges have been filed. Damages were estimated at $11,500.
*A car was demolished and the driver was charged with driving while impaired after a wreck at 2:25 a.m. Monday on Old Mount Olive Road near U.S. 117, the Highway Patrol said. Heiko Reiber, 24, of Hideaway Circle, Dudley, was not injured after her car ran off the right side and overturned. The car was valued at $2,000.
*A driver was injured and his pickup truck was totaled in a wreck at 1 a.m. Sunday on O'Berry Road near Herring Road, the Highway Patrol said. Richard Brandon McLawhon, 21, of Waller Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed after the car ran off the right side, then came back across the road, ran off the left side, struck a barn and overturned. The truck was valued at $10,000. Damage to the barn, owned by Bruce Basden of Quail Drive, was not immediately known.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 2:01 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 55 near Seven Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. A motorist leaving a driveway, Nardaron Rachaunte Cox, 19, of South John Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other driver going east was identified as Charles Ballard Utter IV, 32, of Laurinburg.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 12:15 a.m. Friday on Emmaus Church Road near Outlaw Road, the Highway Patrol said. No charges were filed against the driver, David Felton III, 18, of Mobile Circle, Dudley, after the car ran off right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The auto was valued at $5,000.
*A car was totaled in a wreck with a cow at 9:14 p.m. Friday on N.C. 55 near Kelly Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Ervin Salas, 22, of Cabin Creek Drive, Seven Springs, was neither charged nor injured. The car was valued at $7,000.
*Damages were estimated at $12,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:50 a.m. May 6 at Pikeville-Princeton and Nahunta roads, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound motorist, Joseph J. Jordan, 37, of Brookside Way, Pikeville, was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Jordan's car collided with an eastbound vehicle driven by Steven A. Macut, 40, of Livingston Drive.
Guitar, rifles stolen
An estimated $1,850 worth of property, including a guitar and two rifles, was stolen Wednesday from a home in the 100 block of Will Drive, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
The resident, N.F. Tate, also reported the theft of two DVD players, a coin collection in a box, video-game equipment, a portable radio and three remote controls. The thief inflicted about $200 in damages to a door to get inside.
Sheriff's deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A green Honda four-wheeler, a 12-foot trailer and a tool box with saws were stolen between Saturday and Wednesday from a shed in the 5200 block of U.S. 70 East, deputies said. The owner, Gene Letts of Goldsboro, put a $7,100 value on his property.
*Five residents on Shady Grove Road reported that their unlocked vehicles had been entered between Tuesday and Wednesday, deputies said. One resident, Kenneth Stephen Martin, reported the larceny of a camera and a compact disc player, valued at $200. The other residents said their vehicles had been ransacked but nothing had been stolen.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A computer, six jackets, six pairs of pants, a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of boots, two frying pans and jumper cables were stolen between Saturday and Wednesday from a home in the 100 block of East Walnut Street, police said. The resident, Haywood L. Ingram, put a $1,663 value on his property. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*Video-game equipment was stolen Wednesday from an apartment in the 800 block of Olivia Lane, police said. The thief had removed a window air-conditioner to get inside. The resident, Tammatha Signal, said the property was worth $220.
Sex charges
A 43-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested today by Goldsboro police and charged with two felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Anthony Ulmer, who did not disclose a home address, also was charged by Investigator Paige Learnard with a misdemeanor count of indecent exposure. Ulmer was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
