KENANSVILLE -- James Sprunt Community College had 325 students walk across the graduation stage.
About 160 of the graduates, dressed in the traditional cap and gown, attended the ceremonies and took home associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and high school diploma equivalencies.
Tammy Cay Spaulding of Beulaville and Joshua Raynor of Kenansville received dual awards during the graduation ceremonies. They received a 4.0 grade point average and received the Highest Honor Student in a Degree Program award.
Raynor, who received an associate in arts, associate in general education and accounting degrees, also was among those named as Highest Honor Student in Diploma Programs.
Ms. Spaulding, an early-childhood associate-degree graduate, also received the Faison W. McGowen Award, which is voted on by the Sprunt faculty and given to the student who "has best exemplified the characteristics of scholarship, leadership and citizenship."
Other students honored for their achievements were:
*David Bierowski of Faison -- highest score on the GED test. He also received a $300 scholarship to take classes at the college during the next year.
*Cynthia Smith of Beulaville -- the Second Highest Honor Student in a Degree Program award with a grade point average of 3.95.
*William Goldrick of Kenansville -- the Second Highest Honor Student in Diploma Program award with a GPA of 3.96.
Others receiving awards as Highest Honor Student in Diploma Programs with a 4.0 grade point average were Jerry Jacobs Jr. and Robert Knowles Jr. and Daniel A. Raynor.
Also honored were Donna Sanderson, an associate degree nursing instructor; Anthony Ramsey, a welding technology instructor; and Mary Ann Simmons, an English instructor.
Ms. Sanderson received the Faculty Council Award, which is voted on by the full-time faculty members.
Ramsey received the David H. Carlton Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is awarded by the college's foundation.
Ms. Simmons received the Employee Excellence Award presented by the Student Government Association.
