Investigations
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case of vandalism and theft of items owned by Helena Chemicals in a field at the intersection of Old Black Creek and Moye roads. An employee told investigators somebody stole tools after breaking the emergency glass to a chemical sprayer. The damage was $315. The took box and its contents were worth $55.
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating the following crimes:
*Someone reportedly shot into two occupied dwellings on Central Heights Road. John Mark Phillips and William Earl Williams said they didn't know who would have done it. They both heard the shots and the sound of bullets hitting something. They said the shots came from the nearby Tanglewood Trailer Court. Phillips said $650 worth of damage was done to a door and several walls at his home. Investigators found several shell casings in Tanglewood and lead rounds at both homes.
*Somebody reportedly cashed a check after the issuer put a stop payment on it. The check was passed at the D&H Mart at 500 S. George St. The check, issued on an account with the Fleet National Bank, was for $1,216. The owner said Tuesday he cashed what he thought was an insurance check and it was later returned due to stopped payment.
*Another check, a counterfeit, was cashed at the D&H Mart. The Tuesday report said this $440 check was cashed by a different person on March 10 on a Howell's Child Care Inc. account, and the owner thought it was a payroll check.
*Belks at 617 N. Berkeley Blvd. reported $125.88 worth of fraudulent returns by an employee, who used the returns to get cash from the register. Investigators said the employee was apparently bringing old clothes to work, entering them as returns and taking the cash.
*Belks also reported that another employee took $544.25 from a register by making fraudulent returns and used the returns to get gift cards.
*Bojangles at 1025 N. Spence Ave. reported a larceny of $120 from the register Tuesday afternoon. No suspect was listed.
*Somebody broke into the garage apartment of Lamarr Jackson on South Leslie Street and took a stereo system, cash and a Playstation and games. All were valued at $1,225. The report said entry was made by forcing open the door to the apartment, but no damage was listed.
*Somebody reportedly broke into the home of Sequarria Latrece Vann on East Seymour Drive and took a Playstation 2 and two games, all valued at $270, while she was at work. She said they entered by unknown means, and she didn't find anything else missing.
Traffic accidents
The state Highway Patrol has investigated the following traffic reports:
*Nobody was injured in a March 21 rear-end collision on U.S. 117 near Pikeville. Kelly Lynn Magliochetti was charged with failure to reduce speed after the 1992 Ford she was driving struck a 1992 Mazda driven by Phyllis Parks Howell of Antioch Road, Pikeville. Both were going north of U.S. 117, and the Mazda had stopped for traffic.
*A collision at Eastern Wayne High School Monday afternoon ended with 17-year-old David Justin Gabriel Hook of Redwood Trail being charged with failure to yield the right of way. Hook was making a right turn from the school parking lot onto Mark Edwards Road when the 1998 Ford he was driving struck a 2000 BMW driven by Don Lee of Sunset
Drive. No one was hurt. Damage was $1,200 to Hook's Ford and $8,000 to Lee's BMW.
*Juan Manuel Flore Arreola of Pinebranch Road, Dudley, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the 1995 Nissan he was driving hydroplaned in the rain at about 6 p.m. Monday in a curve on Old Seven Springs Road. Damage was $3,000, but he was unhurt when he ran off the road and struck a ditch.
*A car driven by Jean Bostick Worrell of Cashwell Drive hydroplaned in the rain Monday afternoon on U.S. 117 near Dudley and ran off the road. Ms. Worrell was unhurt, but her 2002 Toyota sustained $9,000 damage. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed for the conditions.
*Alejandro Loa Mejia of Dawson Drive was charged with failure to stop for a red light after the 1996 Mitsubishi he was driving struck a 1995 Ford driven by Juana Guadalupe Aldana of Greenfield Cemetery Road, Seven Springs, at the intersection of U.S. 117 and U.S. 13 south of Goldsboro. Nobody was hurt, but the damage was $4,000 to the Mitsubishi and $3,500 to the Ford.
