Black Expo
The history and heritage of blacks in and around Wayne County will be at the forefront during a day-long festival at Waynesborough Historical Village.
The free event, called Black Expo -- A Glimpse of History, will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is open to everybody and is the first of what will be a series of ethnic cultural events held at the village this year.
There will be tours of the village, vendors, ethnic art and craft displays, games, gospel singing in the village featuring area choirs and groups, speeches by the Tuskegee Airmen and food including barbecue chicken, fried fish, hot dogs, ice cream and snow cones. People are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets.

III Century concert
III Century Singers will present its spring concert Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Goldsboro and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mount Olive.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
This year's concert is called "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue."
Conducted by Fred Kelly, it will feature the return of a piece performed last year. Ken Medema's "Moses" was inspired by a sermon and received such good response when III Century performed it that it was added to this year's program.
In addition, the Singers will perform "Who'll Be A Witness," a medley of spirituals by New York composer and conductor Buryl Red; five compositions by David Schwoebel, a minister of music in Virginia; and a group of pieces from Hinshaw Music and the William Hall Chorale.
Date extended
The due date to submit pictures for the Wayne County Humane Society's 2005 pet calendar has been extended to Thursday, May 6.
The cost is $25 per photograph. Pictures that are submitted can also be entered in the Pet Photo Contest, which will be held on Saturday, May 8, for an additional $10 per photo.
Photographs and checks should be mailed to the Wayne County Humane Society, P.O. Box 821, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533. All photos will be returned. More information can be obtained by calling 736-PETS.
Minority Pioneers
The Minority Pioneers, an affiliate of the N.C. chapter of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, will hold its annual meeting this weekend at the Quality Inn in Goldsboro.
The group will hold a pig-picking Friday night, a workshop and fish fry Saturday, capped by a banquet Saturday evening. The speaker will be Addie Richburg, a strategist for the national organization. The group will also be recognizing past and current employees who have achieved excellence in correction.
The 2003 weekend had more than 100 attendees. It is open to both correction employees and the public.
