Hines honored as Realtor of the year

Oscar Hines was honored Thursday night for his service to his country, his devotion to his family and his work for the real estate industry.
He was so affected that he had to regain his composure before he could respond.
Hines was selected as Realtor of the Year by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Association of Realtors. The award was presented at the association's annual banquet at the Goldsboro Country Club.

The association president, Tim Lail, announced Hines' selection. He noted that Hines had served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. After his retirement he remained in Goldsboro to enter the real estate business.
Lail said Hines had been active the Association of Realtors for 10 years, "but he is most proud of his wife and three daughters."
Mrs. Hines and the two youngest girls, Latrice and Daphne, surprised Hines by meeting him at the podium. The oldest daughter, Okema, is away at college.
After a long, emotional pause, Hines spoke briefly of how it felt to be singled out by his peers. You go along in life trying to do right, he said, and occasionally things go wrong. But when they work out as well as they did last night, "it's sweet. It's very sweet."
Hines, a Mason, is working to extend his education through the University of Phoenix.
He is a broker for Dees & Tyndall Century 21.
Lail presided at the banquet, which is sponsored each year by the Goldsboro News-Argus. The general manager of the paper, Hal Tanner III, gave the welcome. Humorist Lee Grantham provided the entertainment.
