Volunteer awards
Nominations are being taken for the 2004 North Carolina Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
Forms are available at Volunteer Wayne/RSVP at Wayne Community College. They are due no later than April 30.
Five individuals, businesses or groups will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community. Nominations will be evaluated by members of the Wayne County Association of Volunteer Administrators.

Grocery help wanted
Goldsboro Councilman Charles Williams has expressed a concern about the lack of grocery stores in his district, and now he has put those concerns in writing.
Williams has sent a letter to Food Lion and Winn-Dixie, asking the stores to consider putting a store in the District 4 area.
"There are 6,464 residents living in district 4, located on the southeastern and southwestern sides of the city," Williams wrote. "I have been approached by several of the leading citizens in this district asking me to send a letter requesting that your company consider the need for a super market in this area."
Williams told the grocery stores that it would be a wise investment to build a store in his district.
He said there was a "dire need for a nearby food and supplies super market in the area. The nearest facility is approximately four miles away."
Spring concert
The Liberal Arts Department of Wayne Community College will present its annual spring music concert on Thursday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium. The public is invited to this free event.
Band, chorus and ensemble classes will perform selections such as "On Eagle's Wings," "The Phantom Of The Opera" and "With a Voice of Singing." Steele Sasser directs the music program at Wayne Community College. For more information, call 735-5151.
Pickle clue
A jar of Mt. Olive pickles has been hidden in Mount Olive. This is the last day clues will be printed that will lead someone to the location of the pickles.
The pickles will be labeled, "You are a winner in the N.C. Pickle Festival Treasure Hunt." The winner should bring the winning jar to the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce. The winner will receive a pickle pack donated by the Mt. Olive Pickle Co.
*Ladies, you don't have to dress up to attend our festival, just wear clothes that are comfortable and enjoy our wonderful art show.
*You can't skirt the issue, you will have a "dill-ightful" time at the Death Defying Dill Dive.
*If your feathers get in a ruffle, bow down and watch the pigs and ducks race during the festival and that will cheer you up.
Pickle Festival
The Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 18th Annual N.C. Pickle Festival this weekend.
Friday events are downtown beginning at 5 p.m. with carnival rides. At 6 p.m., the Death Defying Dill Dive will be held at the Mount Olive Municipal Airport runway, and at 8 p.m. the Band of Oz will perform.
The downtown festival starts Saturday at 8 a.m., when the vendors will be in place. Breakfast will be available. Vendor booths open at 9 a.m., and the festival continues until 8 p.m.
There will also be several other events Saturday morning, including the Cucumber Patch 5K Run starting at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Sleep Inn Motel; the Tour de Pickle Ride starting at 9 a.m. for the 75-mile course, at 9:05 a.m. for the 50-mile course and at 9:10 a.m. for the 25-mile course; and the Pickle Pedal Power Parade, starting at 9 a.m. on the new walking trail at Westbrook Park.
