Chase ends in arrest
A 21-year-old man from Goldsboro faces numerous traffic and firearms charges after a chase Thursday night with Goldsboro police.
Moses Earl Broadie Jr. of Frank Street was arrested at about 10:15 p.m. by Officer Thomas Bailey and Cpl. Jason Graham on N.C. 111 South.
Brodie was charged with a felony, fleeing to elude arrest, and six traffic misdemeanors, one count each of failure to heed blue lights or siren, reckless driving, failure to carry a driver's license and improper passing and two counts of speeding.
Broadie also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction, a semi-automatic rifle. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $24,500 secured bond.
Sports gear stolen
An estimated $2,950 worth of property was stolen Thursday from a home in the 100 block of Best Drive, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
The stolen property included pro team sports apparel, a computer system, a karaoke machine, five video tapes, 15 cassette tapes and a piggy bank. No sign of forced entry was reported.
One resident, Araberra Cornellia Lewis, reported the theft of the karaoke machine, video and cassette tapes and computer system, with a total value of $1,020. John Earl McKinney Jr. reported the larceny of some sports apparel and the bank, valued at $270. Jamie J. Lewis reported the theft of other sports apparel, valued at $1,660.
Two hurt in wreck
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $23,800 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 13 near Nancy Drive, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Caroline M. Davis, 31, of U.S. 13 South, Mount Olive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was identified as Ruben Granados Santoyo, 29, of Pineview Cemetery Road, Seven Springs.
*Two drivers were injured and damages were put at $18,800 in a three-vehicle collision at 7:50 a.m. April 8 at U.S. 70 and Ebenezer Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Donna S. Beckert, 35, of NorAm Road, Pikeville, was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Allyson B. Hutson, 41, of Selma was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Beckert was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Ms. Beckert's northbound car collided with two eastbound vehicles -- a minivan driven by Ms. Hutson in the right lane and a sport utility vehicle driven by David Anthony Tiffany, 34, of Clayton in the left lane.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Two gold wedding bands, other jewelry, a jewelry box and video-game equipment were stolen Thursday from a home in the 600 block of East New Hope Road, Goldsboro police said. The resident, A.R. Wooten, said the stolen property was worth more than $1,525. No sign of forced entry was listed.
*Two shotguns, a 32-inch television and a DVD player were stolen between Wednesday and Thursday after a window was smashed at a home in the 100 block of Holloman Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Jimmy Paul Adams, estimated the value of his property at $1,015 and damage at $100.
Marijuana plants found
A 39-year-old woman from Dudley was arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with two felony drug offenses in her home.
Lisa Marie Shank of Maranatha Drive was charged with the manufacture of marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $7,000 secured bond.
Four marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $9,600 at maturity, also were seized.
