Merci Center holding Open House

The Marion Edwards Recovery Center, or MERCI, 676 Community Drive, will have an open house on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
People are invited to stop by for free hot dogs and lemonade and a tour of the warehouse.
The public will also be given the opportunity to buy some of the items that have been donated, but do not fit the center's needs.
Barbara Tripp, director of MERCI, said electrical appliances, certain types of wood, light fixtures, house wares, and other items will be offered for sale throughout the day. The money will be used to purchase items that the center needs, but may not have received through donations.
The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church bought the former DeCloet warehouse buildings in Rosewood to use for its disaster recovery ministry following Hurricane Floyd.
The program was later expanded to help other families.
People do not have to be affiliated with the Methodist Church, or any church, to qualify for assistance from MERCI.
In addition to building new houses for low-income families, volunteers patch roofs, paint, build ramps for wheel chairs, and do electrical and plumbing repairs for people who are unable to do the jobs themselves or hire someone to do it.
Anyone who is interested in learning more about the program is invited to stop by the warehouse on Saturday.
