Crimes of the Week
Car break-ins between 7 p.m. Wednesday and noon Thursday have been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crimes of the Week."
Thieves damaged the locks to enter a car in the Jamison Inn parking lot at 1408 Harding Drive and two more vehicles in an apartment parking lot at 1601 Cuyler Best Road, police reports said. A compact disc player, a radar detector, a camera cash and personal papers were among the items stolen.
Anyone with information on these break-ins or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*About $100 in quarters, $400 in phone cards, a $200 money order, food and 20 team caps have been stolen from Tienda Aguirre at 517 N.C. 55 E. near Mount Olive. The food and caps were valued at $830.
*Two chain saws, a leaf blower and a cordless drill were stolen from a storage building in the 500 block of Parkwood Lane. The resident, Tom W. Best, put a $1,510 value on his property. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*Computer equipment was stolen Monday after a door glass was smashed at a home in the 100 block of Glenn Drive. The resident, Wade H. Johnson, said the equipment was worth $1,500. No damage estimate was listed.
*A range, a dishwasher and a bathtub have been stolen from a vacant rental mobile home in the 700 block of Loop Road. The property, owned by Dumont and Associates of Crowley, Texas, was worth $1,300. Five light fixtures, two windows and walls also were damaged. The damage was put at $900.
*A 25-inch gold necklace was stolen Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of King Arthur Lane. The resident, V.M. Jaimes, estimated the necklace's value at $375 and damage at $100.
*A television, a video cassette recorder, a vacuum cleaner, a wheelbarrow and two plants were stolen from a storage locker at 325 Stoney Creek Church Road. The renter, Tony Rand Woodard of Goldsboro, put an $1,100 value on his property. The thief had cut a lock from the unit.
Driver injured
A driver was injured and his pickup truck was demolished in a wreck at 10:50 a.m. Saturday on Raynor Mill Road near Jordans Chapel Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joseph Williams Statler Jr., 35, of C.B. Keen Road, Mount Olive, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Statler also was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the eastbound pickup ran off the right side, swerved back and forth, and overturned off the right side into a field. The truck was valued at $15,000.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A four-door 1992 Cadillac was stolen from a garage in the 1100 block of Lemon Street. The resident and owner, Felesia Q. Anderson, said the disabled car was worth $2,000.
*A total of 120 wood pallets were stolen from behind ICI Paints at 903 Landmark Drive. The pallets were valued at $960.
Building destroyed
A grass fire spread quickly Saturday afternoon, destroying a mobile home used for storage and a junk car on Doug Drive, Arrington Volunteer Fire Chief Randy Rogers said.
The resident, Jack Wise, had stored wood palates in the mobile home. The home was owned by Cindy Barwick. The home and contents were valued at $2,000, Rogers said.
"We got lucky," Rogers said. "The wind wasn't blowing too badly."
But the chief said the fire was difficult to reach with hoses because of debris piled in the yard and driveway. Firefighters needed about two hours to put out the blaze and finish salvage work.
Mar Mac, Dudley and Elroy volunteers assisted with manpower and equipment.
Man charged
A 24-year-old man has been arrested by Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with the attempted felony larceny of a four-wheeler.
Shannon Clyde Grimes of N.C. 58 North, Stantonsburg, was accused of trying to steal the four-wheeler near Faro, Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris said. Grimes' secured bond was set at $1,000. Grimes also was charged Monday with misdemeanor larceny. His unsecured bond was set at $500.
Two charged
FREMONT -- Two men have been arrested by Fremont police and charged with misdemeanor offenses.
John Michael Bulla, 19, of Hooks Road, Fremont, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, communicating threats and speeding. His secured bond was set at $500.
Dedric Delmar Harvey, 31, of South Sycamore Street, Fremont, was charged with resisting, obstructing and delaying an officer. His secured bond was set at $300.
Shoplifting
PRINCETON -- A Wayne County man has been arrested by Princeton police and charged with shoplifting non-prescription medicine from a supermarket.
Jonathan Frizzelle, 23, of Crabapple Lane was placed in the Johnston County Jail in Smithfield in lieu of a $1,200 secured bond.
