Business checklist
People who want to open a new business in Mount Olive will soon have a checklist to help them.
Patti O'Donoghue, president of the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce, and Kenny Talton, town planning director, are putting the finishing touches on the checklist, which will be used to guide entrepreneurs through regulations. It will also provide other pertinent information about the town and its resources.
It will be a "fluid document," says Ms. O'Donoghue. "We can change it as we go along."
Talton says he feels the checklist will be a good thing for Mount Olive, the town, the chamber and the business people. It will be readable in English and Spanish and will include a detailed chronology of where to go and who to talk to.
Teacher job fair
The Wayne County public schools will hold a job fair this week for prospective teachers.
The fair will be held Saturday in the Goldsboro High School gymnasium beginning with registration from 9 to 9:30 a.m. School information sessions will be held until 1 p.m. with an opportunity to visit booths. Individual interviews will be held in separate areas from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Runway extension
Workers may start soon on extending the runway at the Mount Olive Airport.
The airport committee voted unanimously to authorize its engineer, Marty Wynn of Talbert & Bright, to receive bids on the runway project, pending approval by the town board and the county commissioners.
The project will be done in three phases. Eventually, it will be extended from 3,750 feet to 5,000 feet. This will allow larger, corporate jets to land.
The town has received $450,000 from the federal government to pay for it.
Cooper to visit
State Attorney General Roy Cooper will be in Goldsboro this week.
Cooper is expected to speak at the Goldsboro Rotary Club's meeting Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Goldsboro Country Club.
Cooper has introduced programs to prevent scams and has also set up a do-not-call registry for people who don't want to be called by telemarketers.
The public is invited to the meeting. Lunch is available at a cost of $5.
Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for Mizpah Temple at the Red Cross chapter house, 600 N. George St. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
