Woman swindles elderly, sheriff reports
A Clingman Street woman was arrested after she reportedly took advantage of an elderly woman who allowed her to use the telephone.
Mary Patricia Moody, 22, was arrested following an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with breaking and entering, larceny, possession of stolen property, and forgery.
She allegedly went to a Wilson Street residence and asked to use the phone. Once inside the home, she asked the resident for a glass of water. While the woman was in the kitchen, Ms. Moody allegedly concealed a pocketbook under her coat and left the residence.
She later forged a check and cashed it for $250, officers said. She was placed in Wayne County Jail under a $20,000 bond.
Car break-in
As the result of an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Dayton Jammal Wells, 17, Lee's Country Club Road, Mount Olive has been charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny.
A report was filed on March 4 that a teacher's vehicle had been broken into at Southern Wayne High School. Wells was arrested on March 12 and held under $1,000 bond.
Forgery
Two people were arrested by Goldsboro police on Friday and charged with six counts each of felony forgery.
Kimberly Jo Dennis of Cashwell Drive and Dwayne Evertte Haywood of Laurinburg were picked up from the Scotland County Jail and transported to Wayne County Jail. They were each placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
