A 40-year-old Goldsboro man walking on East Ash Street was struck by a passing vehicle and killed Tuesday night, according to Goldsboro police.

The victim was identified as Mark Allen Bunch of Apartment 8, 1804 E. Ash St.

Police said Bunch was walking in the right westbound lane at about 6:30 p.m. near the Savemore gas station between Claiborne and Taylor streets.

The driver, John Charles Kuczka, 42, of Woodcroft Drive, also was going west in his 1996 Jeep, when Bunch was struck. No charges have been filed.

The collision remained under investigation today by Officer Tony Sturgill and Sgt. Mike West.

Bunch was the sixth person to die in 2004 on Wayne County roads. The fatality was the second this week on Goldsboro streets. A Mount Olive Middle School teacher was killed Monday. Four people died in one collision earlier this year near Mount Olive.
