Duplin school district restores lines

KENANSVILLE -- The Duplin County school board voted Tuesday night to restore the attendance line between two school districts after hearing concerns from residents in north Duplin County.
Superintendent Tommy Benson said the board put the line between North Duplin and B.F. Grady elementary schools back where it was before it was moved last month. The line was moved about five miles to pull more students into the North Duplin district to alleviate overcrowding in the B.F. Grady district.
Some people from B.F. Grady suggested that the board consider making their school one for grades seven through 12 rather than a middle school. B.F. Grady is a kindergarten through eighth-grade school now.
Benson said the board wants to take it slow and not rush into anything. He said another group from Kenansville and Warsaw asked the board to consider making a new middle school planned between Warsaw and Kenansville a high school to replace North Duplin and James Kenan high schools.
"They listened to the group and asked for more information while still pursuing funding," he said "They don't have the money yet."
