Crimes of the Week
Several residential break-ins on Billy Francis Drive in Goldsboro have been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crimes of the Week."
The break-ins occurred between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and between Jan. 23 and Feb. 23. Property valued at $6,020 was stolen. Included were jewelry, handguns, televisions, DVD players, video-game equipment, collectible knives, old coins and silver certificates.
Anyone with information on these break-ins or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Drug charges
Five men have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses. Two have been charged with five trafficking violations.
*Fabiela Favela Betancourt, 29, of Randall Lane and Jose Santivanes Gomez Jr., 17, of Albertson were charged Friday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad with trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by transport, trafficking in cocaine by sale, trafficking in cocaine by delivery, conspiracy to traffic in cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond. They were arrested after an investigation in Mount Olive.
*William Aaron White, 20, of Country Run Lane, Dudley, was charged Sunday by sheriff's deputies with possession with intent to sell and deliver LSD and two traffic violations, no operator's license and possession of a fictitious license. He was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Terrill Wayne Pegram, 22, of Forest Knolls Road was charged Saturday by deputies with possession of cocaine and three misdemeanors, possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Roy Anthony Dingle, 23, of South Andrews Avenue was charged Friday by Goldsboro police with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling drugs and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon. He was jailed in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Gunfire hits car
A man fired gunshots Saturday at a car, causing about $1,250 in damages, in a parking lot in the 2200 block of East Ash Street, Goldsboro police said.
The victim, Ashley Clifton Forrest II, 18, of Goldsboro, told officers that the suspect pulled out in front of him and a passenger pointed a weapon at him. Four men got out of the car and one fired several shots in Forrest's auto, police said. Forrest sped away and called for help.
Forest and his passenger were not injured.
Woman robbed
A woman walking near her home Sunday night was robbed of her pocket book that had personal papers, Goldsboro police said.
Joyce Lane told police that a black man grabbed her pocket book at about 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Clingman Street. The robber fled south, and he was not described further. The purse was valued at $30.
Car, bus collide
A car collided with a Gateway city bus at 1:19 p.m. Saturday in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, a Goldsboro police report said. Neither driver, nor any of the 15 bus passengers, was injured.
The driver of the car, Samuel Lee Wood, 88, of Cashwell Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The bus driver was identified as Alvin Nathaniel Gaines Jr., 36, of Mobile Circle, Dudley. Damage was estimated at $1,200 to Wood's car and $700 to the bus.
Three hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $38,900 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 12:05 a.m. today on Wayne Memorial Drive near Stoney Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The car ran off the left side and struck a ditch. The driver, Nathanael Trevor Collins, 21, of Central Heights Road, was not charged or injured. The car was valued at $5,000.
*A driver was injured and both cars were demolished in a collision at 12:20 p.m. Sunday at Royall Avenue and Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro police said. Myrtle Christine Blackwell, 79, of Langston Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. She also was charged with a yield violation after her car collided with an auto driven by Laura Meredith Ivey, 16, of South Baden Court. The cars were valued at $15,400.
*A pickup was demolished in a wreck at 9 p.m. Saturday at Landmark Drive and Royall Avenue, police said. George William Coleman, 57, of Edgerton Street told police that he "blacked out" and his southbound pickup went through a stop sign, ran down an embankment and stopped on the railroad tracks. No charges were filed. The pickup was valued at $10,000.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-vehicle, hit-and-run crash at 11:45 a.m. Friday at South Slocumb Street and Olivia Lane, police said. Theresa H. Hamilton, 71, of Hamilton Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. Damage was set at $2,000 to her car. The other driver fled.
*A motorcyclist was ejected at 11:45 p.m. Friday after he ran a stop sign at Greenleaf and West Grantham streets and struck railroad tracks, police said. Ivey Randall Thomas, 38, of Pikeville-Princeton Road was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and a stop-sign violation. Damage was put at $500.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car collision at 5:15 p.m. Friday on Ash Street near James Street, police said. One motorist, Bobby Ray Peacock, 64, of North George Street, was charged with driving while impaired, a yield violation and an opened container violation. He had pulled from a service station, police said, and his car collided with a car driven by Onetia Maggie McFarland, 21, of Fairview Circle.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Diamond rings and other jewelry, more than $300 in cash, a .32 caliber pistol and a compact disc player were stolen between Friday and Saturday from a home in the 800 block of N.C. 111 South, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had smashed a door glass to get inside. The resident L.G. Daly, said the stolen property was worth more than $2,300.
*A 1.5-carat diamond ring, leather boots and two satellite receivers were stolen between Jan. 10 and Sunday from a home in the 400 block of Rose Drive, deputies said. The resident, S.K. Colbert, reported that the property was worth more than $2,100.
*A 9-millimeter handgun and a 12-gauge pump shotgun were stolen Sunday after a door was forced open at a home in the 200 block of Greg Drive, deputies said. The resident, G.D. Bordeaux, estimated the value of the firearms at $600 and damage at $250.
*Three die-cast John Deere tractors and a John Deere mailbox were stolen between Feb. 13 and Friday after a rental storage locker was broken into at Harrells' Mini Storage, deputies said. The renter, Jeffrey Paul Moore of Goldsboro, estimated his property's value at $525 and damage at $50.
*An additional $5,730 worth of property has been reported stolen from a storage unit at 2052 U.S. 117 South Bypass, deputies said. The property, owned by April M. Garnish of Goldsboro, included eight fishing rods, stereo equipment, tools, kitchen appliances, a lawn mower, kitchenware and bed linens. Earlier, an estimated $7,750 worth of furniture was reported stolen between Dec. 13 and Wednesday.
*About $1,677 worth of motorcycle parts were stolen between Feb. 23 and Friday from a home in the 300 block of Potts Road, deputies said. The property is owned by the resident, Timothy Parks.
Investigation
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Six flashlights and five chargers were stolen between Friday and Saturday after two doors were damaged at Griffin Exterminating Co. at 2208 N. William St., police said. The stolen property was valued at $700, and damage was set at $150.
