Three hurt in wrecks
Three drivers were injured in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 7:45 a.m. Monday on an entrance ramp to Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, from North William Street, Goldsboro police said. Linda M. Anderson, 56, of Marlin Lane, Pikeville, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Shannon Elaine Becker, 24, of Belfast Avenue, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $4,000.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:15 a.m. Monday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway South, the U.S. 117 bypass, near the West Ash Street exit, police said. Betsy M. Hudgins, 60, of Nugget Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Steven Richard McKinley, 20, of U.S. 13 South, was charged with an improper lane change. Damages were put at $900.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and his car was demolished in a wreck at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 17 at N.C. 581 and Little River Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Patrick Michael Johnson, 18, of Collier Street was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after he lost control of the car he was driving. Troopers said the car partially crossed the center line, and the driver overcorrected and it ran off the right side and struck a driveway culvert. The car was valued at $3,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A thief inflicted an estimated $1,800 in damages between Thursday and Monday in order to steal a black, 5,500-watt generator and tools in a tool box, sheriff's deputies said. The stolen property, valued at $750, was owned by Sumter Utilities of Sumter, S.C., and stored at a construction site on Charlie Braswell Road. A chain-link fence and two doors were damaged.
*Thirty DVD movies, a DVD player, 15 movie videos and a video cassette recorder were stolen between Friday and Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 200 block of Hideaway Circle near Dudley, deputies said. The resident, S.R. Davis, estimated the property's value at $1,024 and damage at $50.
*A black flat-bed trailer was stolen between July 1 and Monday from Trans Agri Inc. at 371 W. Hill St., deputies said. The trailer was worth $12,000.
Goldsboro police are investigating these matters:
*NASCAR memorabilia, 10 collectible knives, a 27-inch television, a safe, old coins and cash were stolen Monday from an apartment in the 2700 block of Billy Francis Drive, police said. The resident, Dughi Todd, put a $2,560 value on his property. No sign of forced entry was listed.
*An unlocked, white 1990 Volkswagen Fox was stolen between Sunday and Monday from the 600 block of North Herman Street, police said. The owner and resident, Ronald Shane Fuller, said he had left the key inside. The car was worth $1,600.
Teen charged
A Wilson County teen-ager was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony attempted larceny of a four-wheeler on Herman Lane Road.
Michael Thomas Ferris, 18, of Pelt Road, Stantonsburg, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond. More arrests are possible in similar cases, Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris said. Detective Sgt. Carl Lancaster and Detective Chris Bezio assisted in the case.
Dog theft
A 23-year-old man was arrested before dawn today on North William Street by Goldsboro police and charged with larceny of a dog and four drug violations.
Manuel Trimone Jackson of Hare Road was charged with felony larceny, felony possession of heroin and three drug misdemeanors, two counts of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Jackson was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $14,000 secured bond.
Forgery
A Goldsboro teen-ager was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony forgery.
Broderick Jermaine Randall, 17, of South Leslie Street was accused of writing and cashing a stolen check at a Goldsboro bank, Investigators Mike Moore and Neal Lynch said. Randall was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
New officer
FREMONT -- A new police officer has been hired by the town of Fremont.
Andrew Smith, who began work earlier in February, replaced Jeff Jones, who returned to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office as a deputy.
A native of Greenville, Smith graduated from Wayne Christian School and Wayne Community College in the basic law enforcement training class. He was sworn in recently by Mayor Devone Jones.
Student charged
A 15-year-old student at Southern Wayne High School has been arrested by Wayne County sheriff's deputies and charged with possession of marijuana.
A teacher saw the student stuff something into a pocket as he entered a restroom, deputies said. The student who was not identified because of his age was charged in a juvenile petition.
Missing
Two teen-agers have been reported missing by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*LaQuita Dashae Rivers, 15, of 118 North Running Deer Circle, Dudley, was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 140 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium build. When she was seen last at 10 a.m. Friday, she was wearing an orange coat, beige or black pants, a white shirt and white tennis shoes.
*David Robert Phelps, 16, of 1109 Bryan Blvd. was described as white, 5-feet-7 and 120 pounds with hazel eyes and a shaved head. When he was seen last at 6 p.m. Friday, he was wearing a yellow fleece pullover, blue jeans and blue high-top shoes.
Anyone with information on the location of either teen was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
