Retreat

The Goldsboro City Council will spend two days at the coast next week discussing city issues.
It's the council's annual retreat, and it will be held at the Sunspree Resort in Wrightsville Beach.
Beginning at noon on Tuesday, the council will first have a two-hour overview of the city's annual revenues.
Following that the council will discuss what the next step will be regarding an oversight in sanitary sewer bills. Goldsboro council members learned in October that 176 water customers have been receiving free sewer service for years because the city neglected to add that service to the water bill. The customers are now paying the correct price, but the city will decide what to do about collecting for the years that bills were not sent.
On Wednesday the council will spend the morning discussing the City Hall expansion project. Last year the council bought land adjoining City Hall from Councilman Chuck Allen with the plan to expand the building.
The council will also discuss complaints from several homeowners near the municipal golf course. The complaints revolve around broken windows that the residents say were caused by stray golf balls. Though the city has said it's not responsible for the damages, City Councilman Charles Williams continues to bring the issue before the council.
The appearance and cleanliness of the city will dominate the Wednesday afternoon session, as council members will continue to discuss the proposed zoning ordinance.
On Thursday morning the council will discuss some improvements at the sewer plant along with information about a proposed annexation expected to become effective in June. The areas to be annexed are on the east and west sides of Salem Church Road and the north and south sides of Buck Swamp Road. The area includes Ashby Hills, Fallingbrook Estates, Morgan Trace, Buck Run, Pineview Acres, Tarklin Acres and Canterbury Village subdivisions.
The council expects to finish all discussions by noon on Thursday.
