ARC yard sale

One of the many events the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross is having for its Heroes Campaign will be a giant yard sale March 6.
It will be held inside the chapter house from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds from the yard sale will go toward the chapter's local service programs, said Dora Perry, one of the three yard sale cochairmen.
"We are asking people in the community to clean out their closets and donate any new or clean used items they may have," she said. "We are also asking people to come out and support the yard sale."
Donations may be dropped off at the chapter house, 600 N. George St. Anyone with large items or those who want to donate things but can't get out may call the chapter at 735-7201, and someone will pick them up between Feb. 20 and March 1. The chapter will take anything from clothing to household items to furniture.
In addition to the yard sale, breakfast items will also be sold with goodies such as doughnuts, sausage biscuits, coffee and orange juice.
The other two co-chairmen are Durwood Bostic and Gladys Brown.
The chapter held a yard sale in conjunction with a family fun day last year during it's first Heroes Campaign. It raised $1,800, said Cindy Bell, director. "We hope to raise at least that much again this year," she said.
Last year, 28 "heroes" raised a total of $28,710 during the month-long fund-raising campaign.
Heroes are asked to raise $1,000 each any way they want, according to Mrs. Bell.
The campaign officially starts March 10 with a kickoff breakfast at St. Luke Church at 8 a.m. It ends with a celebration luncheon April 1 at noon at St. Luke Church.
This year there will also be a Pennies for a Purpose contest in the schools using decorated water bottles.
