Two Eastern Wayne Middle School teachers have been selected to receive national grants funded by the Aerospace Education Foundation.
Beverly Boltinhouse and Wilson Mewborn were two of only four North Carolina teachers chosen for the 2004 Educator Grants.
The teachers received the maximum allotment, $500. Part of the money was used to pay for a field trip to the Air & Space Museum in Virginia. The rest of the money paid for educational videos and supplies.
"We are proud that our teachers continue to earn national recognition for their ideas and efforts," said Dr. Steven Taylor, superintendent of Wayne County public schools. "Our teachers do a great job with limited resources. Programs like this one can only help us in our efforts to provide quality education to students."
The educator grant is designed to promote aerospace education activities in classrooms.
The program encourages development of innovative aerospace activities within the prescribed curriculum. It also strives to help establish active relationships between the local Air Force Association chapters and their local school systems.
