United Way incentive

United Way has added something new to its 2004 campaign -- a chance for donors to win a brand new car.
As a campaign incentive this year, Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep has donated a Dodge Dakota, worth about $15,000, to be given away to some lucky donor.
This is how it will work: Anyone who gives "fair share," which is one hour's pay a month for 12 months, will have his name entered in a drawing. Each week for 11 weeks starting Aug. 31, one name will be drawn.
On Nov. 20 at the Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership, the finalists will draw for a key in the order they qualified. The key that starts the vehicle wins the truck.
Hal Howard, general manager of Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep, said he and fellow Rotarian Steve Parr, United Way director, were talking about an incentive sponsorship almost a year ago.
"He mentioned that a dealership in my hometown of Jacksonville did something like this," Howard said. "I told him we'd love to do something like that here in Goldsboro because we are very civic-minded."
Both the dealership and United Way hope that the extra incentive will encourage donors to contribute to this year's campaign. For the past two years, United Way has fallen short of its campaign goal.
"We feel that together we can accomplish great things for our United Way and the people it touches," Howard said.
Howard also said that this is just one way the dealership can do something to market United Way that people in Wayne County haven't seen before and generate more exposure for United Way.
"Hopefully with this excitement, this year's campaign should be a slam dunk," he said.
Donnie Barnes, 2004 campaign chairman, said United Way appreciates Howard and Chrysler for doing this.
"We thank them for being willing to support United Way in such a big way," he said. "It's going to create excitement among people who, in the past, have thought about giving to United Way, but didn't. I think United Way is really going to benefit from this incentive this year."
