Five area residents have been named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" at Barton College in Wilson. Students are nominated by college faculty based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
The 2004 selections include Amanda Paulette Rhodes of Four Oaks, Kristina Cockrell Parker and Mark Douglas Stewart of Kenly, Leatrice Reid of Pikeville, and Brittney Cade Lane of Princeton.
Crystal Lee Hodges of Goldsboro graduated cum laude from East Carolina University in December. She received a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance and a minor in business administration. She is the daughter of Judy Hodges of Goldsboro and the late Robert L. Hodges, and the granddaughter of Annie Jones of Goldsboro and Mr. and Mrs. Grover Vails of Washington, D.C.
Thirty-one students at James Sprunt Community College recently were inducted into the Beta Epsilon Chi Chapter of the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa.
In order to qualify for induction, students must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and meet certain course requirements.
New members are Tina Croom, Debra Carr, Christy Hollingsworth, Julie Caison, Toni Hudson, Marscella Davis, Gwendolyn Sheard, Sally Bouyer, Sara Heath, Ryan Shaferl, Samuel Hobbs, Patrick Renfro, J. Barnett, Glendoria Boneyl, Amelia Arthur, Perry Aycock, Melissa Batts, Cristy Bell, Hosafita Francois, Wendy Hubschmitt, Casey Knowles, Phadra Kornegay, Ashley Jackson, Patricia Lennon, Toni Maready, Meredith Matthis, Brenda Naylor, Alberta Newkirk, Gathany Peterson, Jennifer Raynor and Tammy Spaulding.
In addition to being honored for their scholastic success, members participate in a variety of projects throughout the year designed to enhance their experiences in leadership, scholarship, service and fellowship.
Jeremy Nathan Ford, a high school junior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, achieved a letter grade of A in all courses and a cumulative grade point average of 5.4 for the first semester grading period. He is the son of Anita V. Ford and Dr. and Mrs. John E. Ford of Goldsboro, and is a former Spring Creek High School student.
Cara Grace Smith, daughter of Blanche Smith of Goldsboro and the late Larry W. Smith, was named to the Pensacola Christian College dean's list for the 2003 fall semester. A 1999 graduate of Faith Christian Academy, she is scheduled to graduate from Pensacola in May with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.
Ashley R. Howell, the daughter of Nancy Howell and Buddy Howell of Grantham, is on the 2003 fall term dean's list at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. She is the granddaughter of Howard and Mildred Howell of Grantham and Preston and Virginia Hudson of Goldsboro.
Jessica G. Amon and Ebony V. Bowden of Goldsboro are on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte chancellor's list for the fall 2003 semester. To qualify for the chancellor's list, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours with grades of A, B or C and achieve a quality point average of at least 3.8 out of 4.0.
Mark S. Cecil, David A. Costa and Soraya M. White of Goldsboro, Felicia R. Dangerfield-Persky of Dudley and Emefa C. Edwards of Snow Hill are on the dean's list for the 2003 fall semester at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours with grades of A, B or C and achieve a quality point average of at least 3.4.
Jaimie Nicole Mewborn of LaGrange and Miranda Rachelle McCall of Vass, formerly of Wayne County, have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2003 semester at Meredith College. To qualify, the students had to have a grade point average of at least 3.5 and must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours and have passed all courses.
Byron Murray and Dianne Murray of LaGrange and Eddie McKeel of Pikeville are on the fall semester dean's list at Heritage Bible College in Dunn.
Michelle Renee Farmer is on the 2003 fall semester dean's list at North Carolina State University, where she is majoring in civil engineering. She is the daughter of Jimmie and Linda Farmer.
