Gunman holds up Goldsboro store
A gunman assaulted a clerk Thursday at Hill's Beef and Pork Center and then stole the cash register and about $320, a Goldsboro police report said.
The robber entered the store at 2315 N. William St. at about 8:40 a.m., displayed a handgun, pushed the clerk down, grabbed the register and fled, police said.
The clerk suffered head and back injuries, but she was not treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
The suspect was described as white, about 25 years old, 6-feet-1 and 170 pounds with a medium build and short hair. He wore dark clothes and a small ski mask. He fled in a red Chevrolet Z71 pickup on Fedelon Trail.
Property identified in locker thefts
Property stolen from rental storage units last fall in Wayne County has been identified, and some has been recovered and returned to the owners, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The property was found in a rental storage locker in Wilson. About $7,000 worth of property was recovered for seven Wayne County residents, Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris said.
Other property, valued at more than $50,000, was found in the locker and identified by victims from Johnston, Lenoir, Craven, Onslow, Carteret, Wake and Orange counties. Wilson police have been working with other law-enforcement agencies in eastern North Carolina to find other victims.
An unidentified suspect has been arrested. He also has been charged with breaking and entering of storage units in Florida, where he is in custody, Harris said. Other arrests and charges are possible.
Detective Sgts. Dean Roscoe and Mike Kabler assisted in the investigation.
Car stolen
A gray, four-door 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass was stolen Thursday from the 1000 block of Lincoln Drive in Goldsboro. A teen-ager was arrested later and charged with the crime, police said.
The car's owner and resident, Julie S. Thompson, said the car was worth $1,500. Later police arrested Erica Danielle Hobbs, 17, of Garris Chapel Road, LaGrange, and charged her with felony possession of a stolen vehicle. Ms. Hobbs was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $7,500 secured bond.
Break-in
A DVD home theater, 30 DVD movies and a 20-inch television were stolen Thursday from a home in the 100 block of Fields Drive, sheriff's deputies said.
The resident, Robert Owen Baker, put a $1,120 value on his property. A necklace of 1923 silver dollars also was stolen, but it was recovered.
