Moore to visit
State Treasurer Richard Moore, who has been a national leader in reforming the mutual fund industry, will visit Goldsboro on Tuesday, and the public is invited to hear him speak.
Moore plans to be at the Rotary Club meeting at 1 p.m. at the Goldsboro Country Club. Lunch costs $5.
Moore was elected state treasurer in 2000 after serving as the chief executive of the state crime control office. He has received national attention recently for his proposal to reform the mutual fund industry and has been appointed to serve on the New York Stock Exchange Board of Executives to help reform it.
Moore was born and reared in Granville County. He is an honors graduate of Wake Forest University. He is a graduate of Wake Forest's School of Law and earned a graduate degree in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics.
He and his wife, Noel, have three children and live on a farm near Kittrell.
Mike is not Max
A briefly Thursday gave the incorrect name for the sheriff's officer who will take care of Max, the retiring drug dog. The officer's name is Mike Cox.
Tuskegee motivation
Members of the Wilson V. Eagleson Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen of North Carolina will present a motivational program from noon until 1 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the Strickland Building on the James Sprunt Community College campus in Kenansville.
The group's mission is to inspire young people to outstanding achievement and leadership through social and educational activities. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first black people to qualify as military pilots in any branch of the armed forces, serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Prayer breakfast
Goldsboro's Community Affairs Commission, in conjunction with Wayne County government, will hold its annual Human Relations Prayer Breakfast.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in the Herman Park Center.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Daran Mitchell at St. James AME Zion Church.
The cost is $6, and reservations must be made by Jan. 29. To make reservations, call the Community Affairs Office at 580-4359.
