Father-daughter dance

A benefit father-daughter dance will be held Saturday at the Family Y.
The dance will be "Sunday best" dress, so the fathers and daughters can dress up as much as they want.
This will be the first father-daughter dance of its kind held at the Goldsboro Family Y and will benefit the Wayne Area Role Models with Heart, or WARM Hearts, mentor program. About 20 pairs have already bought tickets, said Vanessa Greeson, who is the director of WARM Hearts based in the YMCA.
Ms. Greeson is taking her father, Vance Greeson, with her to the dance.
Her advisory council came up with the idea of holding a father-daughter dance. It has been done at the YMCA in Burlington. That one started out small, too. But today, it has 250 people attending and a waiting list.
People are still calling and asking for tickets. She had originally hoped to have 250 people come. "I'm way off," she said. "One hundred would be great. We could easily do 75."
Several area businesses have sponsored food and door prizes. Carolina Hurricanes Tickets will be the big door prize, and there will be several others.
"We'll have other activities, like a trivia contest: 'How well do you know your father? How well do you know your daughter?'
"It's going to be nice. It's not like a school dance."
"We'll have decorations, and the food will be heavy hors d'oeuvres, not just light snacks," she added. "A DJ is coming, and we'll have karaoke."
Corsages will be available, if pre-ordered, for $5.
This will be the WARM Hearts program's primary fund-raiser, said Ms. Greeson. She said WARM Hearts is a community program. Most of the children she serves are not Y members, but it goes along with the YMCA's mission.
"We're all about building a stronger community for everyone," she said.
