Poor Jeff: Attorney general deserves better treatment from president

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has drawn the wrath of President Donald Trump, who has criticized his own appointee without mercy for several weeks now.

We feel for Sessions, who is only doing his job and has repeatedly proven himself loyal to his boss and to the Republican Party as a whole.

Trump's anger likely stems from the fact that Sessions recused himself from the investigation into alleged dealings between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives last year.

Many Republican leaders in Congress have expressed support for Sessions, who hails from Alabama and was a member of the Senate before taking the job of attorney general. He has said he will not resign his post, despite Trump's bad-mouthing of him.

We think it is unfair of Trump to put Sessions through the public criticism that he is facing. The man is only doing what he believes is right, and we support him in that.

Trump should ease up on Sessions. It not only makes Sessions look bad, it makes Trump look bad.
