No deal: Republican lawmakers cannot agree on repeal of House Bill 2

It should come as no surprise that the General Assembly could not reach agreement on the repeal of the so-called "bathroom bill," otherwise known as House Bill 2.

Republicans are better at in-fighting than they are almost everything else. Always have been, according to longtime political watchers who can remember the days when you could cram all of the Republicans in Wayne County into one phone booth.

What you had in Raleigh during the recent legislative session was a group of Republicans concerned over the negative economic impact the law has had on the state and a group of Republicans staunchly opposed to the having men dressed as women using women's public restrooms. The latter group truly believes in its moral stance and found it impossible to bow to the politically correct group.

We have supported HB2 since its inception. The position, we know, is not popular among everyone, but we don't believe in being politically correct at the expense of the state's values. There is nothing wrong with being alone if you are in the right.
