Get over it: Time for some people to face fact that Trump won

The post-election news is that some people are protesting the fact that Donald Trump won the race for president.

They need to get over it.

Trump won fair and square, and no matter what you think of the electoral college system, it has worked just fine for more than two centuries, and it worked again this time. Yes, Hillary Clinton wound up with more votes in the final tally, but that has not guaranteed a candidate will win the race since the Founding Fathers were still alive and kicking.

The protesters need to follow her example and concede that Trump will become the president in January. If Clinton, who spent much of her life eyeing the nation's highest office, can accept the defeat, so can her followers.

"Not my president," read the signs carried by many protesters. They bring back memories of November 2007, when Barack Obama was elected the nation's first black president. Plenty of voters didn't want to accept that fact either, but the nation didn't tank because of Obama's election. And it won't tank because of Trump's.

People need to have more faith in our election system. If you hadn't noticed, it works.
