Helping hand: Salvation Army food pantry in need of goods

The Salvation Army is asking the Wayne County community to step  up once again and help restock the shelves of its pantry, which are almost bare.

We fully believe this community will come through as it has in the past.

Wayne is full of caring, giving people who understand that the needs of the Salvation Army and the people it serves come not just at the holidays, but all year long.

The pantry has been almost bare of non-perishable items for nearly a month, officials say, and Salvation Army workers have been having to turn people away hungry. That should not be the case in a county like Wayne, where the vast majority of people have plenty to eat.

So we are asking on behalf of the Salvation Army that you step out of your comfort zone for a bit, stop by the grocery store, grab a few large cans of non-perishable food items and drop them off at the Salvation Army headquarters on North William Street.

Wayne will be a better place for it, and you will have the satisfaction that comes with doing your part to help the needy.
